Having learned many mistakes from the previous console generation, Sony launched the PS4 with a more targeted set of software tools and hardware to suit gaming trends. Rather than aim for a console that does everything, they went for a console that does what you need it to.
Compared to the launch of the Ps3, things went far smoother with the PlayStation 4. The console was not being sold at a massive loss, the system architecture was not difficult to work with and they did not let Microsoft beat them to the market. As far as console launches go, the PlayStation 4 went pretty smoothly. Largely helped by the negative press surrounding privacy and sharing on the Xbox One.
The UI for the PlayStation 4, was a huge improvement over the main menu for the PS3. Navigation was much easier, and it also came with many more features to allow for seamless integration into the online gaming network.
