Welcome to the Middle- Earth: Shadow of War trophy guide for Playstation 4. This is a pretty easy platinum to get, but it does require quite a bit of time. The game itself is quite long and depending on the difficulty you decide to play on it could take upwards of 50 hours to complete. There are 4 main acts to the story and once completed you can go back and do a trophy cleanup if needed. There are only 3 missable trophies which are only missable if you rush through the game.

Step 1 – Complete Acts 1-3 / Missable Trophies
There are 3 missable trophies (The Operative, It Came From Within, Vanda) in this game that are blocked after going further than Act 3, so this is why you need to get to act 3 and do not progress any further until you have obtained them.
Getting to act 3 will unlock a large amount of trophies naturally. Some are part of the story and others will come as part of normal gameplay. So long as you put the effort into the missable trophies, there isn’t any need to get too stressed as everything can be obtained after beating the main story.
There are a large amount of things in the game that are unlocked as you progress. Some of the trophies are blocked until you have progressed far enough in the story, so it is good to get act 3 out of the way before you put any effort into the other trophies in the game. Just make sure you get those missable trophies before it is too late.
Step 2 – Complete the main story
You get a lot of XP from completing the story missions, so you should just push ahead with this to get it over and done with. You will get a legendary armor set near the end of the story which will be really useful as you play on. All of the trophies can be unlocked after the story (excluding the 3 missable trophies i mentioned in the previous step). Once the story is done, you will be a high level, have all the skills unlocked that are story related and have some good armor. This gives you a good platform to go off and obtain the rest of the trophies in the game.
Step 3 – Clean Up
This is an easy part. You have the story finished and the missable trophies taken care of. You can now work on picking up any missed collectables and other misc trophies that you have not obtained yet.
Will unlock automatically once you have unlocked all other trophies in the game.
You will get this early on, combine 3 of any gem type you find to create a more powerful gem of that same type. Press Square to combine the 3 together to create the next tier of the gem and unlock the trophy.
You can unlock a gem slot from the inventory menu. You will be shown how to get the first one as part of a tutorial. You will need to pay 1000 coins for each slot, so you need 3000 coins in total to get this. They are very useful to have, so It is worth unlocking these sooner rather than later.
As you get through the game, you will figure out what these are. You will be unable to get this trophy until you reach level 20. Once you get to Nurnen, you will be able to unlock the third assault team slot.
When you find a piece of rare gear (yellow, orange or purple color drop), you will see that it is possible to upgrade this gear to make it more powerful. To perform this upgrade, you need to complete a challenge that is linked to this piece of gear. Upon completing the challenge the gear upgrade will become available. You will eventually get this done as legendary gear is the best and you will want to keep a hold of it once you get it.
Complete the challenge linked to any piece of rare gear that can be upgraded and you will get this trophy. It is possible to complete a challenge without having the gear equipped which can be handy if you have a lot of gear in your inventory and you might find you complete a challenge without even trying.
This will unlock as part of the games story.
You can find these throughout the game. Keep an eye out for the icon from this trophy image on the map and destroy the monument.
You will find the location of the first Ithildin door very early on in the game as it will be highlighted to you after clearing the first Headir tower in Minas Morgul. After this, you will need to obtain the 6 words that are missing from the poem. You can use the video below to solve the poem if you are unable to do it.
You can enable these from the menu by going to options->Game Settings and scroll down and toggle the box that says "Online Notifications". The online vendettas will show up randomly as you play the game and a notification will show up in the top left corner of the screen when one becomes available.
I am sure these will become more difficult to get as time goes on and less people play the game. Try get this one out of the way as quick as you can. All you need to do is be in a place where another player was killed and you need to kill the enemy that killed them to avenge their death.
If you are playing on easy and are kicking ass you might not get this one by chance. The (non online) Vendettas happen when an orc kills you and you must go and kill that fool back! Just get killed by any orc and then when you come back to life you can go and hunt him down and kill him to complete this mission and get the trophy.
This will be a time consuming one to get and if you ignore it early on, you will be in for a nasty grind. When you kill enemies you will sometimes find they drop gems that are red, green or white. You can pick these items up using R1. Once you collect 3 low tier gems you can combine them together to make 1 gem of the next level up. Keep combining the gems until you have one that is the max level. You will not be able to find a top tier gem out in the wilderness.
Make sure to pick all of these up as you play, but do not worry about grinding them too early on. If you want to you can, but after you have completed the main story, you will be able to get quite a few of these gems from the fortress defense missions and this will greatly help you get more gems.
As you progress through the story you will unlock a new interrogation ability. Rather than kill a worm for information about a captain, you can let them live and give them a death threat instead. They will take this threat back to their captain. Complete the mission, killing the captain and you will get the trophy.
If you do not know what the worms are, look out on the map for orcs that have a green eye/votex icon. Press circle to interrogate these enemies and you will then be able to issue the death threat.
In order to be able to get this trophy you will need to have unlocked the "Raise Dead" skill and then purchase the upgrade called "Undying Loyalty". You wont be able to unlock it until you have completed act 3 of the story, so you wont be able to get this for a while.
You will find outposts all over the place. When you are playing the game in any level, check the map and look at the area highlighted red. Look for an icon of a banner with a red crown on it. This marks an outpost mission. Kill the captain of the outpost to complete the mission and get this trophy.
This unlocks as part of the story and can't be missed.
This is part of the story and will unlock once you complete this boss fight.
Also part of the story and unlocks once you kill this boss.
You can get this by finding pieces of legendary gear, but to save time, just beat the games story. Before the final boss you will get a full set of legendary gear and this will unlock the trophy for you.
When you purify the Headir towers, you will see that these artifacts have been marked on the games map. Most are pretty simple to find and if you purify all the towers, you will have the location of every one marked on the map. It is just a matter going to collect them all.
Just like the Gondorian Artifacts, the Shelob memories get marked on the map when you purify the Headir towers. So long as you purify these towers, you should have no issues obtaining these. You need to collect all 15 memories to get this trophy.
Unlocks automatically after completing this act.

This unlocks after completing act 4. The trophy is story related and cant be missed.

There are 15 fight pits to complete in order to get this trophy. They are marked on the map as a red circle with 2 clashing skulls inside. These events are kinda pointless as all you do is watch one of your allied orcs fight an enemy orc. Sometimes they win and sometimes they dont, it is luck of the draw. In most cases they do win, especially if they are a higher level than the orc they are fighting. There are 3 of these on each map so once they are available, you can get them out of the way assuming you have some allied orcs to take part in them.
When you level up you get a skill point to spend on your character. This trophy requires you to unlock all of the main skills. The main skills are the larger icons. There are 34 of these in total that you need to obtain. You can purchase the upgrades if you wish, but they do not contribute toward this trophy. You will likely get this one over time, but keep it in mind so you dont end up spending all the points on the skill upgrades and leave yourself in a position where you need to do a boring grind.
You will see these towers on the map with the red eye of Sauron marked above them. You need to purify these towers to find the Gondorian artifacts and the Shelob memories anyway so it is wise to do these as soon as you get to a new map. Climb to the top of the tower and press Circle to purify the tower.
Story related and cant be missed.
You must complete this before beating the game as once you have finished the main story, you will not be able to loose your forts and this trophy will be locked. To get this trophy you need to open up the pause menu and go into the army screen. Highlight an enemy warchief and you should see some lines going from him to other, lower Orcs in the area. These lines mean that those Orcs are his bodyguards. You will need to recruit these bodyguards and once they are all recruited, a betrayal mission will show up on the map. Complete this mission to unlock this trophy.
This is more of an online leaderboard than anything, you dont have to play any online games. As you play through the game you should hit the requirements for this automatically. You will need to purchase a lot of fortress upgrades. You will likely do this a lot during Act 4, so this shouldnt be much trouble.
You can check your current rank by pausing the game and going to the Online section. You can see your rating if you press X. To get the rank of Captain you will need to have an army strength of 2500. It wont hurt to have an incredibly strong army for other things, so definitely put the effort into this and the reward will come in other ways than just getting this trophy.
This trophy requires you to complete a Rescue mission. These missions show up when an allied Orc fails a nemesis mission and becomes captured by the enemy. You must complete the rescue mission and you will obtain the trophy.
If this doesnt happen automatically, you can recruit a few Orcs in an area and use the advance time feature on any Headir tower. This will make the game world play out and let the Orcs do their thing. Eventually one of your allied orcs will get captured, especially if he is a low level.
This should happen to everyone at some stage, so it is best not to worry about it. You should be killing a lot of captains, so the odds of you running into the same one a second time after he has respawned is highly likely. If it doesnt unlock for you then kill all of the captains in an area and remember this place. Come back at a later stage when they have respawned and you will bump into one and get this trophy.
You will need to purchase the skill upgrade called "Worse than Death". You get this for beating the quest of the same name. Open up the map and look for an Orc captain that has the Assassin class (the class is under his name assuming you have discovered the enemy information). Seek out this orc and once you find him you need to dominate him and then use the "Shame" option to drop his level down. If he doesn't become deranged right away, you can hunt him down again and repeat the process until he does.
This video will help you get this trophy if you are having any issues.
You will complete conquest as you make your way through the game normally. You need to put the effort into this one as it can be easily missed. Once you have the ability to make Orcs join you, you can start working toward getting this trophy. The requirement is fairly simple. Before you take on a conquest mission, make sure that all of the warchiefs have been dominated and are on your side.
This is a quick one to get. Dominate a bunch of Orc captains in an area and wait a while until one of them is on a mission. You can see they are on a mission because they will have little bars above their heads. Find an orc that is on a mission and then another that is not. If you have both then you can select the Orc that is currently on a mission and press X to reinforce them. The trophy should unlock right away.
You need to have 2 captains recruited. Go to the army meny and make both of these recruited captains fight against each other in a pit fight. The trophy will unlock once you complete the pit fight quest that shows up.
A Destroyer is just a class that some Orc captains have, it isn't an special unit type or anyting. Check the army map and try to find an enemy orc that has this class, or even better see if you already have one that is allied to you. Track down any random enemy captain on the map and let this captain kill you. This will trigger the Vendetta mission. Go back to the army page and send your Destroyer class Orc captain on this vendetta mission. The trophy should unlock as soon as you send him on the mission, you do not need to wait until the mission is over.
The first step is simple, pick an enemy Orc from the army map and let him kill you. He may move around so make sure you keep track of his name and stuff. Get killed 3 times by this guy. Once you have been killed 3 times, go back and fight him again a fourth time. This time you need to dominate and recruit him.
If the process is a bit slow, up the difficulty and you will die a lot faster without having to worry about allies coming in and saving the day super easily.
This should unlock automatically as you build up your army. There are 10 different classes and as you recruit more and more Orc captains the likelyhood of you having 1 of each is really high. If not, check the map and look at the orcs in the area to see what classes they are. You will need to recruit 1 orc for each of the following 10 advanced classes.
This will come naturally. During act 4 there will be a lot of fortress defenses and in the process there will be lots of captains killing eachother. This should unlock at some point during the game without you having to influence it.
These missions show up early in the game and are usually a lot of fun. These are marked on the map with an icon that is the same as the icon for this trophy. These make you go back in time and play as the ghost guy who is working with you. You only need to complete these in a single region, you do not need to complete all of them in the game.
There are 7 beasts in total that you must ride in order to get this trophy. You will not be able to ride most of them from the start as you need to have unlocked some skill points that give you the ability to ride a particular mount. You will likely get this one naturally as there are plenty of opportunites to ride the beasts in the game and they provide you with a massive advantage in battle.
This video will show you all of the mounts in the game that you need to ride in order to unlock this trophy.
To make this one a lot easier you will need to have 2 abilities "Call Mount" and the upgrade called "Graug Call". Graugs are the big ogre like enemies and drakes are the dragons. You can get this if you go to the Headir tower in the middle of Nurnen. Advance time here over and over until a drake shows up. Once it is there, call a graug and mount it. The drake will fly around and be annoying, but it will eventually land on the ground. Use arrows to shoot it in the mouth and it usually causes it to land on the ground. Once it is down, lay into it with the graug and you should be able to kill it fairly easily. The video below will help you achieve this if you are having any issues.
Similar to the previous trophy "Wild Things", you will need to be riding an Olog mount and kill a captain while doing so. This is a lot more difficult than it sounds. Thankfully the video below will show you exactly how to do it and will be much more descriptive than what I could write here.
The short story is that you need to find an Olog captain who has a bonus called "Gang of Ologs". Interrogating worms will speed things up if you are having difficulty finding any. Attack the captain and work his health down until it is almost gone. At this point you need to shoot one of the nearby Ologs in the head with a charged arrow and press R1 to mount him. Keep attacking him and direct him toward the captain. Since the captains health is low, you should be able to take him down a lot easier. Play this on an easier difficulty if you are having trouble obtaining it.
I think the intention for this trophy was to make it so you work a low level orc up the ranks until he becomes overlord. Thankfully there is a massive shortcut. Once you alreay have control over an overlord in an area, simply use the reposition option to swap the captain and the overlord and this will unlock the trophy for you. The video guide below will show you exactly how to obtain this trophy.
Interrogate worms to reveal all of the enemy captains and warchiefs in a region. Look over all of the Orcs in the area and check fo see if they have the "Blood Brother" ability. If they do it will tell you who their blood brother is. Determine which of the 2 is the strongest and dominate him. Once you do this you can issue the command to kill his blood brother. You are able to inflict some damage on the opponent, but you need to make sure that the killing blow comes from the Orc and not you. If you kill the blood brother the trophy will not unlock.
See the trophy "If You Can’t Beat Them". You should get this in the process of working toward that trophy.
When you are in enemy camps, you will often spot bait hanging around the place. Shoot them with an arrow to trigger the event of the beast being attracted. You will need to attracting the following 5 beasts to get the trophy.
- Ghuls (Eggs)
- Spiders (Egg sacks on the walls)
Once you have unlocked the ability to recruit captains, recruit one and attack him until he turns hostile again. Once he has turned hostile the trophy will unlock.
You will need to connect to the games market to get this trophy. The sight of these kinds of garbage microtransactions is a punch in the balls, but we must go here none the less. You will need to purchase a warchest that contains a training order. You can buy chests with the silver in game money instead of having to spend your real money to get a trophy.
Once you have a training order, load up the army and press Square to improve the Orc. This will give him a new bonus and get you this trophy.
