Why do some wild Pokemon have red eyes?

Sometimes in the wild areas of the game, I see some really large pokemon with red eyes. What is the reason behind this. They look the same as the smaller ones so they are not shiny…I am guessing.

Red eyed pokemon are known as Alpha pokemon. These are like the elite versions that are the leaders of the pack in the area. They are normally a much higher level than other surrounding pokemon and are stronger too. In most cases, their speed is high and they will get the first move in a battle, making they rather difficult to defeat if you are not strong enough to absorb the first attack.
