Research points will go up at 54 points per hour. Do they continue to go up even when you are not playing the game? For example, if i dont play the game for a week, will i come back to a load of resources?

Yes, points will build up overnight. There is a limit to how much can be built up though. Once the limit is reached, you will no longer earn any new research points. This is why it is good to log in every day. Claim the daily reward and the research points to make sure you don’t miss out on anything.
