Nintendo have been quite slow to jump onto the HD remake band wagon, this has lead to a massive influx of gamers and modders remaking games for themselves. Today we have one such video, a HD remake of Super Mario 64 remade in Unity.
Visually, this demo looks fantastic. While it may be slightly lacking in detail, its very much a solid remake of the original, but now in 1080p, with much clearer textures. The most striking thing that took me is the level of detail in all of the animations. Mario runs like he did in the original game, the enemes are also animated brilliantly too.
After watching this video you will be desperate to see a complete remake of this game, but unfortunately its not going to happen. At least not at the moment anyway, the official answer from the developer on whether this will be completed is some bad news.
“…I currently do not have any plans to develop this any further or to resolve any bugs, unless they’re horrendously gamebreaking and horrendously simple to fix. This project is provided as-is, and you are free to use it for any purposes you like, with the exception of selling it for profit. All included code libraries’ previous licences still apply.”
We may still see this project picked up by a different team and it would be fantastic to see, but projects this ambitious rarely ever see completion. Check out the video below to feast your eyes on one hell of a fantastic fan remake.
