I am a high enough level for the quest that I am on but I am finding it difficult and frustrating. If I take damage I either have to let myself die and restart or try and evade the enemies and recharge health when I’m safe. Is there no healing items to restore health while you are in combat?

One of the first perks you can unlock under the warrior ability tree is to restore health during combat. This will slowly allow health to recharge when you are not taking damage. I’d suggest you purchase this as quickly as possible from the pause menu.
