How To Put Armor On Soldiers?

I have created a suit of armor and I have a fresh soldier with nothing equipped. How do you equip the soldiers with the armour? I have tried to use record to equip the armor on myself when they are watching but it does not record this action with them. I have also tried picking it up and attempting to use it on one of the soldiers but it doesn’t work either. How are you meant to use the armor on the soldiers in this game?

    Crude Armor is for the player only. You cannot put it on your soldiers.
