I’m not sure what the wood is even called in the game. I am just looking at the available upgrades for the gear I have and some require sticks of wood. I have a few but I don’t know how I got them or where to get more. Anyone able to explain more?

You get them most often from disassembling bows and heavy weapons. If you check the gear you have, you can press and hold a button to break down the item into various components. You normally get metal or sticks from this. Bows always always give sticks so if you break these down you should get quite a lot of you have not been in the habit of doing it already.
