I have completed the training at the start of the game and it has asked me to stand in the yellow spotlight in the middle of the room to continue. When I do this, an exclamation mark appears above my head and more enemies appear with the objective of “more training”. I am stuck in this loop now and can’t break out of it.

Standing in the light is not the objective. It is actually how you specifically redo the training over and over. To progress with the game, you need to walk forward, into the darkness and the game will go on.
The spotlight in the middle of the room is specifically for more training so this is doing what it is meant to do.
