6 reasons to use VPN for gaming

If you strive for the best performance in gaming, you’ve probably already taken care of display, sound system, graphics card and a powerful computer. In case you’re wondering if there is anything else you can do to improve your gaming experience, it’s a perfect time to consider using VPN. VPN stands for a virtual private network, and its benefits go beyond online privacy and security.

So what other advantages it brings to gaming? Let’s take a look at six reasons why you should use VPN to improve your gaming experience.

Reason #1: connect to any gaming server you want

The Internet and e-commerce have made us used to get anything we want from any corner of the world. However, sometimes geo-restrictions apply to online content, including games. For example, when residing in the US, you can’t connect to a gaming server in Europe.

If you want to choose gaming servers freely, you should consider using VPN. It connects you to a server in a country of your choice, this way making it possible to choose a gaming server in any part of the world.

Reason #2: be the first to access new releases

A common practice of video game companies is rolling out new releases in stages. For example, it may be North America and Japan the first ones to get the access, followed by Europe, Australia and other parts of the world. So if you happen to be in a prime location, you’re lucky – you won’t need to test your patience seeing other people already testing out the game and sharing their experiences online. Otherwise, the wait it’s annoying.

With VPN, you can bypass restrictions and enjoy the game as soon as it rolls out. VPN routes your Internet traffic through a remote server in a selected location, so you can virtually appear in a region you need to be to get your hands on a game as soon as possible.

Reason #3: avoid malicious attacks

A distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack is one of the scariest nightmares that can happen to gamers. DDoS attack is a malicious attack that involves sending multiple malicious requests to a system to take it down. But why would someone want to launch a DDoS attack against you? Well, if that someone is your opponent who is about to lose the game and simply can’t handle it. It doesn’t happen often because one needs to have skills and resources to set up a DDoS attack.

The good news is, you can avoid malicious attacks heading your way by shielding your IP address while gaming. When you connect to a VPN server, your real IP address is hidden so an attacker can’t easily target you to flood your network with traffic. This way, you can have peace of mind.

#4 Play your favorite games when abroad

Serious players are willing to maintain their gaming sessions even when they’re traveling. However, they may be forced to connect to a local gaming server instead of their usual one in the home country once they connect to the Internet abroad. In this case, VPN comes as a convenient solution. If VPN offers an extensive server network, including fast servers in your home country, the problem is gone – all you have to do is to connect and load the game.

#5: Shorten ping times

There’s not only fast Internet speed that matters in PC gaming. It is more about a stable and reliable connection that lets you play with no lags and interruptions. A delay between player’s input and a response in a game is a lag that many find extremely annoying.

Such lags are consequences of high latency and ping that determine the duration between data being sent and received. To shorten ping times, connect to a VPN server in the same location as the gaming server. A fast connection will help you avoid poor performance and lagging, click to find out more.

#6: Avoid ISP throttling

The Internet service providers (ISPs) often use bandwidth throttling supposedly to regulate network traffic and reduce congestion. ISPs inspect data packets for streaming, gaming, downloading large files, and other data-heavy online activities to intentionally slow down the Internet speeds for them. As a result, gamers are left with frustrating lags.

With VPN, you can easily avoid all of this and enjoy the top-notch gaming experience. VPN encrypts your Internet traffic, this way not letting the ISP to inspect your connection and slow it down with throttling.

  1. Very often used to have an unbearable lag to the point I was screaming :D But got a suggestion to subscribe to one of the VPN providers as it may decrease lag. Chose Nordvpn and it helped immensely! Without hesitation would recommend anyone having the same problem to subscribe to a VPN provider
