Xbox 360

Microsoft really made a massive dent on the game console market with the release of this system. Not only did it release a year before the PlayStation 3, but it also had a huge number of network features that dominated the online gaming market for many years. The Xbox 360 was the console firmly pushed the Xbox brand as a direct and serious competitor to the PlayStation.

The Xbox 360 is looked back at being a console that helped define the online networks we seen in-game consoles today. Network-level achievements, friend & community systems, integrated online stores and many more. All of these were present as part of Xbox Live for the 360 at launch, forcing Sony to play catch-up for many years.

Much like the PS3, the Xbox 360 suffered serious overheating problems which resulted in a failure rate of over 50% for the earlier models. The failure was known as the red ring of death or RROD. It has resulted in many of the early models of the console becoming incredibly rare to find in working condition.
