The origin of horror and evil video games, Doom has a massive legacy. Doom was one of the founders of the 3D FPS genre. Since the Bethesda takeover of Id, we have seen Doom in a new light. Evil never looked so good. The game style of Doom is similar to that of other Id games. There are other franchises that have most definitely been influenced by Doom.
I like how Doom is so completely different from the regular first person shooters like Call of Duty. I like being able to jump around the place, use crazy weapons and just blow the shit out of everything in general. Feels like an arcade FPS more than anything. What are some good games like Doom?
Bulletstorm
This game falls on the other elements of Doom that Gears of War doesn't touch on. Bulletstorm is high paced, kicking enemies into blades and blowing things up with very little care for taking cover and being stealthy. Visually it doesn't share much with Doom, but the gameplay does share some of the madness.
Serious Sam
Serious Sam games are the same kind of madness that Doom has but it is completely uncontrolled madness. Shit loads of enemies just dumped into the map and you just have to blow the crap out of everything in sight before it kills you. The older games are a little more crazy than the newer ones (might be a resource thing), but if you want a shooter that is just mad guns and killing stuff, Serious Sam is a pretty good franchise to start with.
Halo 5: Guardians
Halo seems like a game that has taken some inspiration from Doom. The vehicles, armor and the ability to jump like 50 feet in the air. The Halo games have very high production values so there is a lot of good to take from these games. They are Microsoft exclusive games, but they are on the PC along with Xbox.
Unreal Tournament 3
For a multiplayer only experience, Unreal Tournament is pretty much a Doom game, but with PvP multiplayer instead of a story mode. If you are after some multiplayer gaming, you should check this out. You run way faster than other games, jump super high and all of the weapons are oversized and pack a big punch. 3 was the last major release I think, but they are working on a new one now that is free to play...i think.
Duke Nukem
Duke Nukem has been around since the early days of FPS games, back when Doom first hit the scenes. The game is not as high paced as doom, but it has a lot of weird aliens to kill and some cool weapons to kill them with.
Gears of War
Gears of war is very similar in everything but the pace. Definitely not as quick of a game, but the the Gears of War games are set in a sort of messed up future like Doom...just not as much hell and demons.
