Retro Games vs New Games

I honestly don’t know what it is about retro games that even allows for a discussion as to which is better, retro games vs new games. The graphics, animations and concepts are so far beneath the new games, it’s difficult to even consider them being in the same category. With all that being said some retro games just have the “it factor” that keeps on drawing gamers back.

Old School 3 Reel Slots vs. 25 Line Online Slots

Close your eyes and picture playing slot machines, you pull on a level and the reels spin and you’re hoping to see 3 cherries across the screen. The newer online slot games have 25 lines or more, which translates to more chances to win.

While some may enjoy the simplicity of retro slots, there are just more opportunities for winning and excitement in online slots.

First Person Shooter Games

When Doom, Duke Nukem and Wolfenstein exploded onto the gamer scene in the early to mid 90’s it was like nothing we had seen before. It gave players the feeling of looking through the scope and going after the bad guys. That is until I play new games like Halo, Call of Duty and Battlefield that I realize just how unrealistic those games were, and how awesome the games of today are.

Graphics, animations, and sound aside, when I play a retro shooter game like Doom or Duke Nukem I’m taken back to a simpler time, where no other players are depending on me, and the game is simple yet still enjoyable.

That being said, I’m shaking off the nostalgia and going with Modern warfare games. There is just too much there that I like, the talking with your platoon online, realistic gameplay and overall feel of the game is something that gamers couldn’t have even imagined back in the early 90’s.

Classic Games vs. Modern Games

I know this is pretty general, but in my head I was thinking of Pac Man, Donkey Kong and Super Mario Bros, as classic retro games, but what would be a fair comparison? Sure there are Pac Man remakes and Mario Kart and other similar games, but here is where the retro games come out on top for me.

With these games, I feel that the graphics are less crucial than the shooter games and the retro games just have a better feel, and that “it factor” that I mentioned earlier.
