Death Howl launches on PC with strong reviews and console date set Review

Death Howl
Death Howl game release

Death Howl is out now on PC, available on Steam and GOG. Developed by The Outer Zone and published by 11 bit studios, this soulslike deck-builder blends deliberate combat with card-driven strategy and action-RPG exploration.

Players follow Ro, a mother navigating grief and loss, through a world that pairs a minimalist aesthetic with heavy themes of sorrow, survival, and acceptance. Each encounter pushes careful positioning and timing, asking you to anticipate enemy movements, study attack patterns, and adapt your build on the fly.

The tactical layer is grid-based, with cards shaping your abilities, counters, and combos. Defeat is expected and meaningful—resting restores your strength but also brings fallen foes back to the field, forcing smarter routes and tougher choices. As you move between regions, you’ll unlock new enemies, abilities, cards, and branching decisions that steadily reshape your run.

Early reception is strong: Death Howl currently holds an 84 on both Metacritic and OpenCritic. Console players won’t have long to wait either—versions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch are slated for February 19, 2026.

The project received backing from the Danish Film Institute’s The Games Scheme, supporting its distinctive tone and focused design.
