After the success of the Nintendo DS, there was naturally going to be a successor. The 3DS is one of the most unique gaming experiences to date in that it offers 3D gaming, without the glasses! Compared to the DS, it has a bigger screen, more powerful hardware and a much more advanced operating system.
The 3DS did not enjoy the same level of success that its predecessor did, but over its lifetime, it did serve as a home for some of the greatest mobile games to date. The 3D without the glasses feature did not prove to be a huge success with Nintendo eventually launching a 2DS. More or less the same console but without 3D support, and more strangely, without the ability to fold.
With the success of the Nintendo Switch, the future of the DS line is likely nonexistent. Between mobile devices and the new hybrid format of the switch, there appears to be little appetite among gamers for a return to the traditional “Gameboy” style of gaming devices.
