Borderlands 4 release

Borderlands 4, the latest entry in Gearbox Software’s looter-shooter franchise, is out now worldwide as of September 12, 2025. The new installment brings a fresh setting, four new Vault Hunters, and a suite of systems designed to deepen exploration and co-op play.

The game is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. A Nintendo Switch 2 version arrives October 3, 2025. Developed by Gearbox Software, a 2K studio, and published by 2K, the title is rated M for Mature by the ESRB.

New world, new threat

Set on the planet Kairos, Borderlands 4 pits players against the Timekeeper, an oppressive force commanding an army known as The Order. The conflict leans into cyberpunk-flavored sci-fi, with cybernetic implants and tech-forward foes shaping both combat and traversal.

Gameplay highlights

The sequel introduces four new Vault Hunters and the series’ trademark billions of weapons, now paired with expanded traversal options such as the Digirunner vehicle. Deep skill trees enable flexible buildcrafting, while seamless travel between zones, dynamic events, and a wide spread of side missions target a more fluid, exploration-first loop.
