Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution Finally Sees the Light
After nearly two decades in limbo, Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution is preparing for release as the long-lost sequel to the original Shantae. Development originally halted in 2004, but the project has now reached completion thanks to the efforts of the original team, WayForward, and Limited Run Games. The developers utilized the original code base and tools to bring this title back to life, preserving its unique roots while adapting it for modern hardware.
The game is officially positioned as the second entry in the Shantae series, unfolding after the events of the first game but before Risky’s Revenge. This placement is expected to fill in important story connections for long-time fans.
Modern Features and Classic Appeal
When it releases for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, Risky Revolution will offer players two main ways to experience the adventure. A modern version features high-resolution artwork, while Classic Mode stays true to the 2004-era pixel visuals. This approach allows both newcomers and longtime fans to enjoy the game in their preferred style.
A new addition to the series is the Battle Mode, supporting local multiplayer for two to four participants. This mode is designed to encourage friendly competition and cooperative play, expanding the series’ appeal beyond single-player platforming.
Special Editions and Content
The game will be available in both Standard and Deluxe Editions when it launches on August 19. The Deluxe Edition includes three exclusive costumes—Relic Hunter, High Voltage, and Sizzle Armor. Each costume not only modifies Shantae’s look but also affects her magic attacks, offering players fresh ways to approach combat and exploration.
