Borderlands 2 is the second installment of the Borderlands franchise published by 2K Games, with the Gamespy servers recently decommissioned, Borderlands 1 suffered as you could not play co-op anymore with your friends. Borderlands 2 however, received a patch and you are still able to play with your friends.

Playthrough Information
In my Fallout: New Vegas guide, I talked about different playthroughs that would yield certain achievements, Borderlands 2 is very similar in nature.

There are character specific achievements, and nothing is ever simple. Two of the characters will cause problems, if you remember from Borderlands 1, each character has a skill tree – in BL2, you can unlock achievements for two characters by only leveling one skill in their tree. This of course can be very frustrating if you want to have a character with several different skills, you can reset the points and re-spec the trees. You need to level up and reach Tier 6 on the tree, so this could take multiple playthroughs.

The other characters have similar character specific achievements as well, so just beware and read up which achievements apply to the character that you are playing – I will separate this out within my guide.

Challenge Accepted Challenge Accepted
Completed level 1 of all non-level-specific challenges with a single character

There are many different challenges within this game, similar to the previous one. I’d like to think that you will find the majority just by playing through the game, but sometimes you’ll need to hunt a little more. Some of them require certain guns or elements.

A little tip that I’ve read about, look up the ‘JEEEEENKINSSSSSS!!!’ challenge as you will need to do that and it’ll save you so much time.

Goliath, Meet David Goliath, Meet David
Allowed a Goliath to level up four times before killing him

Goliath’s can be found anywhere throughout Pandora, they are brute like monsters with a mask fixed upon his face to control his “rage”, once you shoot the mask off, he gets really annoyed and starts shooting/attacking everything. Just like you, he gains XP for every kill which in turn lets him “Level up”, making him meaner and changing his name.

Once he has leveled to Level 5, kill him, it’ll be tough, but theres an achievement at the end of the tunnel – he’ll be called “Fatal GOD-liath”.

Went Five Rounds Went Five Rounds
Completed Round 5 of any Circle of Slaughter

When you visit the Ore Chasm or The Fridge area’s, you’ll find ‘The Circle of Slaughter’. You received side missions similar to the DLC from Borderlands 1 – you’re placed in an arena and must kill everything in order to escape and pass the round, simply get to round 5 and you’ll be golden.

It’ll be much easier in Co-Op, but if you want to do it in solo, go to The Fringe, the levels are lower and that makes it easier.

Not Quite Dead Not Quite Dead
Reached level 5

You unlock your characters special Action Skill!

Better Than You Were Better Than You Were
Reached level 10

Always Improving Always Improving
Reached level 25

See “Capped Out..For Now” for more information.

Capped Out...For Now Capped Out…For Now
Reached level 50

You won’t get this in a single playthrough, you are typically between Level 30 and 40 on your first playthrough, simply start playing again with the same character and about half way through, you should peak level 50.

Tipped Moxxi $10,000

You’ll come across money quite easily in this game, and it doesn’t take long to save up $10,000.

Moxxi is found in her club, Moxxis’ in the Santuary. She’s stood just behind the front desk and right next to her is a glass jar for tips. Simply tip her with $100, or with $1000 whichever you can afford and repeat, it does not have to be in one go either which is good.

Decked Out Decked Out
Had Purple-rated gear or better equipped in every slot

Over Pandora, there are different types of weapons with different colour codes.

  • White – Common
  • Green – Common
  • Blue – Uncommon
  • Purple – Rare
  • Magenta – Very Rare (E-Tech)
  • Orange – Legendary

You basically need to fill all 8 slots with a weapon higher then purple class, the 8 slots comprises of: 4 guns, 1 shield, 1 grenade, class & relic mod.

Sabre Rattler Sabre Rattler
Killed 100 enemies with the Sabre turret

The Sabre Turret is Axton‘s unique action skill. Once you reach level 5, you have access to it, you just simply need to rinse and repeat and kill 100 enemies whilst using the skill. You can spend some skill points to make the process to go much quicker, but you will get this by grinding it.

To upgrade the action skill, you need to look at the Guerrilla tree. I recommend getting this on solo purely because nobody will be there stealing your kills once your skill is active.

Phased and Confused Phased and Confused
Phaselocked 100 enemies

The Phaselock is Maya‘s unique action skill. Once you reach level 5, you have access to it. When playing her, all you need to do is phaselock 100 enemies to get this achievement.

To upgrade the action skill, you need to look at the Motion tree. I recommend getting this on solo purely because nobody will be in your way, just remember, they are phaselocked, not killed.

So Much Blood! So Much Blood!
Gunzerked continuously for 90 seconds

The Gunzerk is Salvador‘s unique action skill. Once you reach level 5, you have access to it. All you need to do is Gunzerk for 90 seconds straight to get this.

You will need to invest in some skill points, so this will take slightly longer then the others. The points are found in the Rampage tree. Play this on solo because there are more enemies and its easier to get it then as nobody will be stealing your kills.

Cute Loot Cute Loot
Killed a Chubby

You can find a Chubby all around the map, but there are two certain places that you’ll encounter one. Either in the starting area of Caustic Caverns (Cubby Vakid) or in the Wildlife Exploration Preserve (Cubby Stalker). They are very rare, so don’t be sad if you can’t find one.

Tribute To A Vault Hunter Tribute To A Vault Hunter
Got an item from Michael Mamaril

Michael can be found in Sanctuary, although his location changes randomly, so you will have to search for him, not that much work for an achievement. Just talk to him and he’ll offer you a weapon, take it and you’ve got it. I found a list of his typical locations.

  • Crimson Raiders HQ
  • Dhal Garbage (Near Sheriff’s office)
  • Dr. Zeds
  • “This Just In” Vendor (Right next to it, centre of the map)
  • Outside the Black Market
  • Marcus’ Shop
  • Moxxi’s
  • Scooters Garage
  • Stairs near Claptrap
Definitely An Italian Plumber Definitely An Italian Plumber
Killed Donkey Mong

Donkey Mong is another rare monster that really own spawns in the Bullymong areas of Eridium Blight. You will pass this area during a story mission and looks like regular Bullymogs, but he throws barrels at you (Donkey Kong rip!). Just keep trying and he’ll spawn eventually.

High-Flying Hurler High-Flying Hurler
Killed a flying enemy with a thrown Tediore weapon

Boomerang in disguise.. Once you reload, your weapon is thrown by your character automatically to the place where you’re currently aiming, it only does a small amount of damage, but kills flying enemies such as Rakk which can be found early on in the game. You can either loot or buy this weapon and you’ll encounter the Rakk early on in the game.

Token Gesture Token Gesture
Redeemed 25 tokens

You earn tokens by completing challenges throughout the game and these can be spent on your Badass rank. This has no limit, so simply redeem 25 of these tokens to unlock this achievement.

Hidden Achievement
What does it mean? What does it mean?
I can’t even capture it on my camera.

This is quite a fun achievement if I’m honest, you’ll need to go to The Highlands to get it and head towards the ‘Hyperion Extraction Plant’, go inside and head towards the back of the back and you’ll come to a cliff edge. Peek over the cliff edge and you’ll see a small ledge below with a tent, you’ll get some audio played and the achievement will unlock.

Unseen Predator Unseen Predator
Remained in Zero’s Deception mode for ten seconds straight

Decepti0n is Zer0‘s unique action skill. Once you reach level 5, you have access to it. All you need to do is stay stealthed for 10 seconds. Melee kills cause you to restealth and add time on.

You will need to invest skill points in the skill tree, so it will take longer then others. The points you need are in the Bloodshed tree. Do this by yourself as nobody else will be stealing you kills.

Build Buster Build Buster
Killed a Constructor without it ever building another bot

You first come across a Construct during the side quest, “Out of Body Experience”. They are tough sons of **** and you will struggle in the earlier levels to bring these bad boys down.

I read a kinda cheaty method online, once you have found him, kill his backup and then die. He no longer spawns any other robots and you’ll just be able to chunk away at him – as he spawns no more friends, you get an easy achievement.

Hidden Achievement
Well That Was Easy Well That Was Easy
Completed the mission “Shoot This Guy in the Face”.

You do have the potential to miss this, during the “The Once and Future Slab” main mission in the Thousand Cuts area, as you’re heading to the Buzzard Factory, check the cliff edge and there is a guy with a “!” above his head. Once you get to him, he’ll offer you the side mission, make sure you shoot the guy square in the face, don’t shoot his body otherwise you won’t get it.

How Do I Look? How Do I Look?
Unlocked 10 customization items

You can unlock customisable items in several different ways, either by completing a challenge, from dropped loot or by gaining a new Badass rank (from tokens). Simply unlock 10 to get the achievement.

Hidden Achievement
Thresher Thrashed Thresher Thrashed
Defeated Terramorphous the Invincible.

You encounter this chap right at the end of your first playthrough. You’ll unlock a mission, “You. Will. Die. (Seriously)” from Tannis once the last boss has been dispatched of.

I highly recommend fighting him with at least 3 others, because he is a hard boss, you don’t want everybody to die either because then his health will reset back to 100% and then becomes the long kill game again. It also costs you 4 Eridium to enter the arena to fight the dude, so just be wary before going all ham up in there.

Friendship Rules Friendship Rules
Revived someone from “Fight for Your Life!” that is on your friends list

Just to clarify, “Fight for Your Life!” mode is exactly the same as in Borderlands 1. Once you run out of health, you fall (just like Last Stand in Call of Duty) and you have the opportunity to get back up by killing an enemy unit, if not however, you need assistance from a friend, simply revive your friend and get the achievement.

Better Than Money Better Than Money
Purchased 5 items from the black market

One should never buy stuff from the black market.. but when there’s an achievement involved, who cares. The Black market is located on the east side of Sanctuary (Hostel), in the market, you can purchase “SDU” upgrades. You don’t use money to buy these items, but instead us Eridium – so you’ll need at least 20 pieces to buy 5 items each costing 4E.

Up High, Down Low Up High, Down Low
Gave Claptrap a high five

This achievement is cute, really. Simply high 5 Claptrap. You first the opportunity to give him a high five in Sanctuary after he offers you “Claptrap’s Secret Stash”, complete the mission and return to him, Press Y and he’ll raise his hand, now aim and melee and after a few seconds, you’ll high 5. There are other places you can do this as well.

Collected 10 pictures of Moxxi in Campaign of Carnage

This achievement might take some grinding to do. There is a cheaty method to do it as well, but I won’t give you that 😉 Basically, enemies with “Bad-♥♥♥” before their name have a % change to drop a picture of Moxxi upon death. Collect 10 of these to get this. The picture will glow purple once dropped so it looks uber rare, you can’t possibly miss them due to their size.

Face Off Face Off
Completed the mission “The Fall of Nakayama”

This is story related and cannot be missed. There are 4 missions in the main storyline, this is the final one. The fight itself is s slightly trickier then usual, corrosive weapons work nicely against him. Just keep shooting his power cells and his little friends and you should be done in no time.

Done That Done That
Completed all Hammerlock’s Hunt side missions

There are 13 side quests to do around here, so here’s the list.

Hunter’s Grotto

  • Big Feet
  • Egg on Your Face
  • I Like My Monsters Rare
  • Now You See It
  • Paling Around

  • Voracidious the Invincible

Scylla’s Grove

  • Follow the Glow
  • Nakayama-rama
  • Ol’ Pukey
  • The Rakk Dahlia Murder
  • Urine, You’re Out

Some of the above a tricky, but lucky for you, I found some notes on easily getting them – the next 4 bullets are not my work.

Egg on Your Face
Cyan is the only item that you can see across the map, you’ll have to drive around looking for white/cyan line’s sticking up to find the egg, might take you a while to do, but just keep your eyes open.

Follow the Glow
The waypoint that you are directed to is underground. Once you start going down, follow the path and then use the teleporter.

I Like My Monsters Rare
This is a farm enemies mission, the easiest way to do this is find an area where the enemies you need spawn, kill them and then save and quit. Reload and repeat.

Urine, You’re Out
You have to do this quest at night. You’ll find them all on claptraps stuff, this includes Boomboxes, Speakers etc. You have to do some bunny hopping to get some though.

Girl's Gotta Eat Girl’s Gotta Eat
Fed thy noble queen 3 times during one visit to her quarters

You can get this as soon as you’ve rescued the Queen, once she’s returned to Flamerock Refuge, she’ll ask you to do a couple of quests, the second one is to feed her – do this 3 times to pop the achievement. Please note, she only eats Eridium, so it’ll cost you 45 bars.

Showed thine worst enemy, the abomination known as “The Darkness,” who is the nerdiest of them all

You need to go to Hatred’s Shadow, once there, you’ll notice a dark area on the wall across from a campfire, just shoot and an enemy health bar will appear. A door will be revealed and there will be a chest taunting you from within. There is a note that somebody else found, so this is not mine.

Note: Equip a Magic Missile grenade mod and throw it at The Darkness, the door will open allowing you to open the chest inside, but you will not get the achievement. I would save this for other trips to The Darkness.

They Was All They Was All “Hey That’s Mine”
Unsheathed 5 swords from Immortal Skeletaurs without leaving the area

This is done whilst battling a giant tree, yes thats right a tree. When you’re doing the mission “Denial, Anger, Initiative”, to progress, you have to defeat 4 ghost kings.

You’ll have immortal Skeletaurs around the area too, when you kill one, you need to walk up to it and “unsheath” the sword sticking through its body. There will be a prompt to press and pull it out. If you don’t pull the sword out, they’ll continue coming back.

Simply do this to 5 and the achievement will pop, this is continuous as long as you do not travel.

Dang Girl You Ace At This Game Dang Girl You Ace At This Game
Won the most challenging round in Murderlin’s Temple

Moxxi will give you the start of this quest and send you to see Murderlin, once you’ve completed the 6th wave, turn in the quest and the achievement will pop. She can be found in Flamerock Refuge.

Wielded the Mysterious Amulet

*This achievement is missable* – Mr. Miz could show up during the initial playthrough, but then again he may not. Loads of people claim not to be able to find the guy, however, after the campaign is finished, there is an “Undiscovered” quest in the Lair of Infinite Agony. If he is there, they’ll be a “!” on the map, if you don’t see that, just fast travel until you do. You need to buy the amulet, it is expensive though.

Keep Rollin' Rollin' Rollin' Keep Rollin’ Rollin’ Rollin’
Demonstrated your skill, or lack thereof, at rolling the magical treasure orb of many sides

You will find loot chests with 2 x 20 sides dice on top of them over various places on the map, the way it works is that you spend Eridium to roll 1 or 2 die to get better loot. The higher then roll, the better the loot of course. You must roll a 1 or a 20 to pop the achievement, if you don’t complete it by the end of the main campaign, once you’ve defeated the Raid Boss, you will gain 53 more chests!!

Vanquished the Ancient Dragons of Destruction

You need to complete the main story to gain access to this quest. Mr. Torgue is the quest giver and he will be the stocks at the front of Flamerock Refuge. There is a pre-requisite site quest before you can get access to this one.

He’ll point you to a statue on the Lair of Infinite Agony, you will need 20 Eridium to activate and it reveals an area to the Raid Boss area. I recommend you bring friends for this, seriously. You’ll fight four dragons, each have a different element. Now the four dragons each have different unique abilities, so I’ll explain them and then you can figure which one you should kill first.

  • Corrosive Dragon – Does a lot of damage to you and spawns in basilisks.
  • Fire Dragon – Wherever it lands, it lights the ground on fire.
  • Stag Dragon – Very healthy dragon.
  • Electric Dragon – Has the ability to heal the other dragons.

How with the information above, you should prioritize the Electric Dragon, followed by the Fire Dragon so you can move about. Then take out the Corrosive Dragon and finally the Stag Dragon. Do all this to unlock the achievement.
