Pirate Name Generator

Give your seafaring character a name worthy of a ship’s log. Choose a captain, corsair, buccaneer, or legendary style, then explore two-part combinations for a novel, tabletop campaign, game, or costume persona. A strong pirate name should fit the tone of your adventure and be easy to remember when it is shouted across a deck, introduced to a crew, or printed on a wanted poster.

Choose the persona first

Think about whether your character is feared, clever, lucky, theatrical, or secretly kind. A captain’s name might sound commanding; a corsair may feel quick and daring; a legendary style can lean into tall tales. Let the chosen style guide the mood, but do not feel bound by it. A quiet character with an imposing name, or a fearsome pirate with a gentle nickname, can make an appealing contrast.

Give the name a story

A memorable nickname can come from an event, a ship, a skill, or a rumor that follows the character. You can use one part of a generated result as the nickname and build the rest of the character’s history around it. For a crew, keep the names distinct and consider a shared pattern that makes the group feel connected without making every member sound alike. You might also name a ship or rival using related sounds to give the wider adventure a consistent style.

Fit the adventure

Try the suggestions in dialogue and check that they are easy to pronounce. A comic adventure can support a playful combination, while a grounded story may call for something shorter and more restrained. These are fictional prompts, not historical identities or records. If your story is based on a real period, research names and language separately so the generator’s imaginative results do not get mistaken for historical fact.
