Clay is a resource that may seem useless at first but when you need it, it is one of those resources that you can never seem to find. Clay spawns naturally on some planets. It is usually in smaller batches. Due to the colour, it can often be difficult to find when you are out exploring.
Where To Find Clay
Clay can be found on all planets in the game in different amounts. It will appear on the surface as brown triangular shaped rocks that look a bit like mud. It will often be in smaller batches which makes it a little difficult to gather large amounts of it for crafting.
The biggest problem with clay is that it looks like a plain rock that you see around the planet normally. You might walk across clay and not even notice it. This is why you should check out the video and pictures below that will help you identify it if you find it.
Clay can also be exchanged for other resources in the following locations.
|Soil Centrifuge||2 Full Soil Canisters||6 Clay|
|Trade Platform||1 Scrap||2 Clay|
What Planets Contain Clay?
Clay will appear on all planets in Astroneer. The quantity and frequency in which it appears will vary depending on the planet. The table below will list the different planets of the game and give you the rarity of the resource on each one. If you know a little more about how common each of these is on the planets, please let me know and I will update the table.
What Does Clay Look Like?
Clay is hard to spot sometimes due to it looking like standard rocks and soil that appear naturally. From a distance, clay almost has a reddish colour glow coming from it. The image below will help you identify it more easily. Do not confuse it with rocks, look for the red/brown glow like you can see on the tips of the material in this image.
What is Clay Used For?
Clay is only used for one thing, the production of ceramic. Ceramic has several uses which makes the acquisition of clay quite important and valuable. The table below will contain a full list of all structures and items that can be crafted using just this resource or a combination of others.
