Quantumfrog and THQ Nordic have announced that Pumuckl and the Crown of the Pirate King will launch on March 5, 2026 for PC and Nintendo Switch, with a suggested retail price of €39.99. The digital adaptation brings the mischievous cabin boy, goblin, and chaos expert Pumuckl into a colorful pirate adventure inspired by Ellis Kaut’s beloved character and featuring the original design by Barbara von Johnson.
Developed in Oldenburg by Quantumfrog and published by THQ Nordic, the game blends modern mechanics with handcrafted level design and the trademark humor fans expect. It’s designed for adventurers of all ages, inviting longtime followers of the stories and families alike to dive into a puzzle-filled voyage.
Players can expect an isometric 3D adventure with exploration, environmental puzzles, and a generous dose of goblin-style antics. The story kicks off when Pumuckl discovers a mysterious bottle with a ship inside, is whisked into a magical pirate world, and teams up with Captain Krimskrams to lift a curse by collecting golden doubloons and ultimately confronting the Pirate King.
Core features include puzzle levels, mini-games such as memory and collecting quests, and a couch co-op option where a second player can join as Captain Krimskrams. A helpful parrot named Krakula offers clues along the way, while threats like ghosts and skeletons challenge your wits and reflexes. The journey culminates in a multi-phase boss battle against the Pirate King.
According to the studios, development is being carried out in cooperation with Beta Film GmbH and Pumuckl Media GmbH, with financial support from Beta Film GmbH and funding from nordmedia – Film and Media Society of Lower Saxony/Bremen.
The first trailer showcases the tone and look of the pirate realm, giving a glimpse of the puzzles, co-op interplay, and characters players will meet.
