Lost in the Open Brings High-Stakes Tactical RPG Action to PC and Steam Deck

Lost in the Open RPG

Black Voyage Games, in partnership with WhisperGames, has announced its debut title, Lost in the Open, a story-driven tactical RPG set in a beautiful yet unforgiving low-fantasy realm. This upcoming launch is set to capture the hearts of tactical RPG enthusiasts, promising an experience that balances engaging narrative with intense strategic gameplay.

At the heart of Lost in the Open is King Nrvesk, a monarch cast into chaos following a failed assassination attempt. Players are tasked with guiding the king and his two loyal bodyguards as they flee through a procedurally generated overworld, pursued by relentless enemies. The journey demands more than just tactical prowess; survival itself is a challenge, as the group must manage resources and endure the hardships of a harsh landscape.

Every decision made throughout the campaign can alter the outcome, introducing branching events and meaningful choices that ensure each playthrough is unique. As players traverse varied environments, they’ll encounter tense battles, unexpected twists, and opportunities for both squad-wide upgrades and narrative development.

The core of the game’s combat system revolves around tactical grid battles on an 8-directional battlefield. Each encounter requires careful positioning, adaptive strategies, and consideration for limited resources. The game incorporates survival through attrition mechanics—conserving energy, managing injuries, and responding to dwindling supplies all play a significant role. Squad progression is dynamic, with upgrades redefined during each run, further enhancing replayability.

High stakes define the experience: should King Nrvesk fall, the game ends with no chance to retry, intensifying the pressure behind every encounter. This permadeath system demands calculated risks and a keen sense of leadership throughout the journey.

Developed by an international team with backgrounds spanning mobile and indie games as well as animation, Lost in the Open aims to blend distinctive visual storytelling with compelling gameplay mechanics. The game is scheduled for release later this year for both PC and Steam Deck platforms, and players eager to experience its unforgiving world can try out a demo ahead of launch.
