Metal Gear Solid 3: Boss Fight Guide - Young Ocelot

Metal Gear Solid 3: Boss Fight Guide

In Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, one of the early boss battles you will encounter is against a young Ocelot. This guide will provide you with a step-by-step approach to the battle, along with some tips and tricks to help you defeat him more easily.

Young Ocelot is a skilled gunslinger and a member of the elite GRU’s Ocelot Unit. The battle takes place in a forested area with multiple trees and rocks, which can be used for cover. Ocelot’s primary weapon is his revolver, which he uses with great accuracy. He will also occasionally throw grenades and use ricochet shots to try and hit Snake from different angles.

Step-by-Step Guide To Young Ocelot Boss Fight In MGS3

Step 1: Prepare for the Battle

Before engaging in the boss fight, make sure you have the following items equipped:

  • Mk22 tranquilizer gun (for non-lethal takedowns)
  • M1911A1 pistol (as a backup weapon)
  • Stun grenades (optional)
  • Rations and other food items (to maintain stamina)

Step 2: Take Cover

As soon as the battle begins, immediately take cover behind a tree or rock to avoid Ocelot’s initial shots. Keep an eye on his movements and stay out of his line of sight.

Step 3: Observe Ocelot’s Patterns

Ocelot has a few distinct patterns during the battle:

  • Shooting from behind cover
  • Running to a new location
  • Throwing grenades
  • Firing ricochet shots

Learn to recognize these patterns and anticipate his actions.

Step 4: Choose Your Moments

Wait for Ocelot to expose himself while running between cover or reloading his revolver. This is the perfect time to take a shot with the Mk22 tranquilizer gun or the M1911A1 pistol.

Step 5: Disarm Ocelot’s Grenades

When Ocelot prepares to throw a grenade, quickly shoots him to make him drop the grenade. This will cause it to explode near him, dealing damage and potentially stunning him.

Step 6: Evade Ricochet Shots

Listen for the distinct sound of ricochet shots and be prepared to move out of the way. Keep an eye on Ocelot’s position and the surfaces he is shooting at to anticipate where the ricochets will go.

Step 7: Utilize CQC (Close Quarters Combat)

If you manage to get close to Ocelot, use CQC techniques to disarm and stun him. This will give you an opportunity to land a few easy shots while he is vulnerable.

Step 8: Maintain Stamina

Keep Snake’s stamina up during the battle by eating food. This will ensure that your aim remains steady and your overall performance is not hindered.

Step 9: Repeat and Adapt

Continue to follow steps 2-8, adapting your strategy as needed based on Ocelot’s movements and actions. Patience is key in this battle; take your time and wait for the right opportunities to strike.

Young Ocelot Boss Fight Tips & Tricks

The following tips and tricks can be used to make this boss battle a little easier if you are having trouble or just want to shake things up a bit and experience the fight against revolver Ocelot differently.

  1. Use the Fake Death Pill: At the beginning of the battle, take the Fake Death Pill to make Snake appear dead. Ocelot will approach Snake to investigate, giving you the perfect opportunity to revive Snake using the Revival Pill and perform a CQC attack or land a few easy shots while Ocelot is caught off-guard.
  2. Exploit the beehive: There is a beehive hanging from a tree in the battle area. Shooting it down will cause bees to swarm Ocelot, distracting him and giving you an opportunity to attack. Be careful not to get too close to the bees yourself, as they can also harm Snake.
  3. Throw a live snake at Ocelot: Capture a live snake before the battle and equip it in your inventory. During the fight, throw the live snake at Ocelot. This will distract him momentarily, allowing you to shoot him while he’s preoccupied with the snake.
  4. Use stun grenades: Throwing stun grenades at Ocelot can momentarily disorient him, giving you a chance to land a few shots while he is stunned. Be careful not to get caught in the blast radius yourself.
  5. Shoot Ocelot’s hat off: If you manage to shoot Ocelot’s hat off his head, he will become momentarily distracted, giving you an opportunity to land a few shots or perform a CQC attack.
