Prologue: Go Wayback! Enters Open Beta as PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions’ Ambitious Survival Game

Go Wayback! survival game

PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions has launched the Open Beta for Prologue: Go Wayback!, offering players a first look at their new single-player hardcore survival experience. Under the direction of Brendan “PLAYERUNKNOWN” Greene, the game introduces a fresh take on the survival genre, challenging players to withstand the harsh elements of a wilderness inspired by the Czech landscape.

Currently available on both Steam and the Epic Games Store, Prologue: Go Wayback! drops players into a procedurally generated 64 km² environment that is newly crafted with every playthrough. The primary objective centers around surviving in a land marked by dynamic and sometimes unforgiving weather, relying solely on tools and supplies scavenged from the environment. Players are tasked with navigating their way to a mysterious structure known as the Weather Tower, contending with a realistic navigation system, emergent gameplay moments, and relentless survival mechanics.

The Open Beta introduces the core features: procedurally generated wilderness, evolving weather conditions, systems that support genuine player agency, and navigation that emphasizes realism over hand-holding. PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions has confirmed that development will remain active during this phase, with new content and features planned in anticipation of the Early Access launch.

This project forms part of the studio’s broader initiative called Project Artemis, which seeks to create games that operate on a massive scale and foster emergent gameplay opportunities. Those interested in influencing the direction of the game can join the official Discord server, where feedback is encouraged and playtest opportunities are shared with the community.
