Team Ninja Brings New Life to the 2D Series
Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound is scheduled for release on July 31, marking a fresh chapter in Team Ninja’s storied 2D Ninja Gaiden franchise. Developed by The Game Kitchen, this new entry pays homage to the series’ legacy while introducing innovative artistic and gameplay elements.
The visual presentation draws clear inspiration from the 16- and 32-bit eras, merging vibrant pixel art with the stylings of 90s seinen anime. The development team set out to both honor the original trilogy and elevate the overall aesthetic to match contemporary standards.

Art Direction Focused on Authenticity and Innovation
Art Director Jesús Campos led the effort to create fluid pixel animation that retains the spirit of the early Ninja Gaiden titles, while pushing the visuals further with modern techniques. The goal, according to Campos, was to bridge the gap between nostalgia and innovation, ensuring the visual experience resonates with both longstanding fans and newcomers.
Concept artist María Lozano worked on defining the characters, placing an emphasis on clear silhouettes and distinctive personalities. This design approach gives each protagonist a unique feel, with contrasting traits that help them stand out within the game’s dynamic cast.
Imaginative Environments and Character Designs
Ragebound’s environments were built using carefully selected color palettes and parallax scrolling, giving levels a depth and vibrancy that evoke classic platformers while introducing technical advancements. The team drew upon influences from mythology, nature, and various art forms to craft enemies and characters, aiming for originality and emotional resonance throughout the game’s world.
