Detective Dotson, a vibrant and offbeat cosy mystery game, has been announced for release on Nintendo Switch later this year. Developed by Masala Games and published by Rainy Frog, the game promises an accessible and heartfelt experience filled with color, Bollywood energy, and plenty of surprises. Rainy Frog, the publisher, will be known to fans of stylish indie titles such as Piczle.
Set against the backdrop of small-town India, Detective Dotson stands out with its lively blend of Bollywood dance routines, bazaar haggling, and pulse-pounding chase scenes. Players step into the shoes of Dotson, a detective with plenty of swagger, on a quest to solve four interwoven mysteries and ultimately discover the truth about his father’s mysterious death.

Every investigation encourages players to chat with quirky townsfolk, hunt for clues among lively Indian environments, and connect the dots on a glittering clue board. The game is presented with a unique style that pairs nostalgic 2D pixel art with lush, modern 3D backgrounds inspired by the vibrancy of contemporary Indian towns. An original soundtrack ties the experience together, capturing the dramatic flair and infectious energy of Bollywood.
Detective Dotson’s creators aim to offer a fresh and authentic perspective on India, moving past the familiar tropes of poverty and antiquity to reflect the richness and diversity of life in the country today. The result is a feel-good game brimming with warmth, heartfelt stories, and cinematic drama—a mystery adventure that celebrates modern India as much as it does classic detective tales.
Masala Games, the studio behind the project, was founded by Shalin Shodhan, an acclaimed developer who has received both a BAFTA and an Oscar for his previous work at Electronic Arts and Pixar. With Rainy Frog bringing its experience from publishing over 100 games across all platforms since 2013, Detective Dotson is set to offer a polished and memorable experience for fans of detective stories, adventure games, and Indian culture alike.
