How would you tune radar without gutting it for destroyers?

Asked by Mellow Lantern

Radar can make early destroyer encounters feel rough, but removing its spotting may also leave teams with less ability to respond when they lose a destroyer. What changes could reduce the early pressure while keeping that counterplay?

I’d keep radar able to spot destroyers and look at the setup around it instead. One proposal is moving the radar duration upgrade into a slot where it competes with other useful upgrades, so longer radar use comes with a real tradeoff.

A separate change could delay the first use of radar. That gives destroyers more room to act early without making radar less useful later in the match.

The first radar of a match is the part I’d focus on. A longer initial wait could ease that immediate pressure, while leaving the spotting effect itself alone. I’d be cautious about applying the same delay to every use, since that could make radar less available as a response when a destroyer is already in trouble.

That seems like a more targeted change than reducing the spotting range or duration across the board.

Making radar more predictable by matching it across opposing sides could help players anticipate where it may show up. But that adds a team-composition constraint, and the proposal itself raises a concern that stricter matching could make queues take longer. I’d weigh that cost against the clarity it might add.
