I ran into a match result that said my behavior was unacceptable and that I would not get a reward. That seems weird because I still ended up with top damage. Is there a reason a game might do that even when the performance looks good?
Why would top damage still get flagged as unacceptable behavior?

Top damage and reward eligibility are not always the same thing. A result screen can still flag a player for something unrelated to damage, like leaving early, being inactive, team damage in some modes, or not meeting a mission condition exactly as written.
If the message was broad and vague, the best read is that the game is judging conduct or objective rules, not pure combat stats. So the damage number can look great while the reward is still blocked for another reason.

This usually comes down to the mission or event requirements being stricter than people expect. Some rewards only count if the match is completed normally, the vehicle is still active at the end, or the player stays within the event rules. If any of that breaks, the game can deny the payout even if you did great in battle.
So the useful question is not just, did I do well, but did I satisfy every condition attached to that reward. Those systems often read as unfair because the game surfaces the penalty more clearly than the reason.

Yeah, the wording is the real problem. It sounds like a behavior report, but it might actually be a rules check tied to the reward track.

Also worth checking if the match ended in a way that counts as surrendering, abandoning, or failing an objective. Those can trigger the same kind of message.

If someone sees this kind of message repeatedly, I would look at the replay or the end-of-match conditions before assuming the game made a mistake. Sometimes a player can be top damage and still be outside the reward criteria because they were not in the right zone, did not assist the team, or broke some event-specific rule.
In other words, the stats page can be misleading if the reward system is looking at behavior flags instead of battle contribution alone. The phrasing is clunky, but it usually means the game matched the player against a rule, not against raw score.

That is probably the best way to read it. The screen makes it sound moral, but it may just be a technical filter.

That makes more sense than a raw damage check. The frustrating part is when the game explains it so badly that it looks like it is punishing performance itself.
