What story RPG could I play with my partner?

Asked by QuietOrbit

I’m looking for a story-first RPG on PC, ideally one I can play with my partner. They prefer low-pressure games, so it helps if the gameplay doesn’t depend on fast reactions. I’ve enjoyed The Witcher 3, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Divinity: Original Sin 2. I’m also interested in shorter, 2D story games with relationships that develop over time. What would you suggest?

If you haven’t played them together, Baldur’s Gate 3 and Divinity: Original Sin 2 are natural places to start since you already know you enjoy them. Their turn-based fights leave room to talk through decisions, and you can adjust the challenge to keep the combat comfortable.

Haven may fit if you want the relationship to be central to the story and want to play together. It follows a couple and supports two-player play. It’s a different shape from a big party RPG, so check whether its focused story and combat style appeal to both of you.

Wildermyth is worth a look for cooperative, turn-based storytelling. Its characters develop relationships as the story unfolds, though it’s less like following one fixed protagonist through a linear romance. That makes it a better fit if shared choices and character moments matter more than a specific love story.

If you’re open to a solo game, I Was a Teenage Exocolonist is a 2D narrative RPG with meaningful choices and character relationships, including romance. It won’t meet the multiplayer part, but it’s closer to the shorter, relationship-focused story you described.
