What games feel less lonely to play on your own?

Asked by Copper Teacup

I’m looking for a game to play when I’m feeling lonely. I keep returning to the same games and then thinking they’d be better with other people. Are there games that feel companionable, or that are enjoyable solo without leaning too hard into isolation?

Try something with a friendly cast and a sense of daily life, like Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing: New Horizons. There are characters to get to know and small things to do, so the world can feel companionable even when you’re playing alone. If you want a shorter option, A Short Hike has a warm, friendly feel without asking for a big commitment.

If you’re missing the people you used to play with, a game with easy drop-in co-op might feel better than another solo game. Look for something where you can join a group without needing to arrange a long session or talk on voice chat. If that makes the absence feel sharper, though, it’s fine to switch to a solo game or take a break. Games can offer a pleasant distraction, but they don’t have to carry the whole weight of loneliness.
