Doom Eternal could fit if you want a fast FPS. It has weapon and suit upgrades, and most of the playtime is built around combat rather than long conversations. There is a story, but it doesn’t take over the whole game. Doom (2016) is another option if you want a simpler upgrade setup.

Roboquest is worth a look if you’re open to runs rather than a traditional campaign. It’s a single-player FPS with unlocks and upgrades between runs, and it keeps the focus on shooting instead of dialogue. The roguelite structure means you’ll repeat areas, so it may not be the right fit if you want a straightforward story campaign.

If you’re up for melee combat, Sifu has sparse dialogue, challenging fights, and moves you can unlock. It’s a very different feel from Borderlands, but the focus stays on learning combat rather than following a long series of story quests. It’s worth considering if you want progression without another shooter.
