Is Vloxx's “ascension” the same kind of thing as before?

I’m trying to make sense of what Vloxx is doing when he talks about ascending for power. Is this meant to be the same kind of ascension we’ve seen in the setting before, just done through a different route, or is it really a different thing that only shares the name?

I also keep wondering whether “ascension” always points to one general power-up concept, or if there are separate versions with different results and limits.

The way it reads, the setting uses the same word for a few different power changes, so I would not treat every ascension as identical. Some versions seem ritualized and tied to specific traditions, while others are more like someone forcing their way into a higher state through unusual means. Same label, different mechanics.

With Vloxx specifically, the point looks less like a clean ceremonial upgrade and more like a path to power built around his own worldview. That usually means the result may share the broad idea of transcendence, but not necessarily the same abilities, stability, or rules as the older examples.

That’s the part that matters most to me too. Same word does not always mean same system, especially when the story keeps changing what the process is supposed to do.

I’d split it into two layers. On the surface, ascension is just a narrative shorthand for crossing into a higher tier of being. Under that, the exact method seems to decide what kind of power you get and what it costs you. So a seeker, a ritualist, and someone using a more synthetic or experimental route can all be called ascended without being equivalent.

That also fits the bigger pattern where characters think power will let them “fix” the world, but the method often matters more than the slogan. If the method is built on control, rejection, or stripping away flaws, then the outcome can be very different from the older heroic idea of becoming elevated through trial.

Yeah, I think the title word is doing a lot of work there. It sounds unified, but the story probably wants you to notice the differences underneath it.

And the moral angle changes it too. One path can be presented as sacred, another as dangerous, but both still end up under the same umbrella term for the audience.

My read is that Vloxx is chasing a broader kind of transformation, not necessarily the exact same ascension event from earlier stories. The important part is the goal, which is to gain enough power to impose his idea of a better world. The name of the process matters less than the fact that he’s trying to leave normal limits behind.

If you’re asking whether you missed some big lore rule, I don’t think so. The franchise has reused big terms like this before, but usually the details are case by case. So the safest answer is, same umbrella word, not necessarily same power level or same end state.

That clears up a lot. I was getting stuck on whether the word itself had one fixed meaning, and it sounds more flexible than that.
