How do I find damage in the AMX 50B without overcommitting?

Asked by Soft Compass

I’m comfortable with autoloaders, but in the AMX 50B I often either push too far or wait so long that I do little damage. Open ground feels punishing, and on the heavy flank I struggle to unload safely. How should I look for openings without forcing a full clip?

Try playing a step behind the front line rather than taking the first position or sitting far back. Let an enemy fire or get distracted, then move in while your team can still help. Before you expose yourself, check where you can retreat after firing. If there’s no safe way out, the clip probably isn’t worth forcing.

You don’t have to treat every opening as a chance to unload the whole clip. A shot or two followed by a retreat can be better than staying exposed for the rest. Look for enemies who are isolated or already occupied with someone else, and keep enough room to fall back while the gun reloads.

Think of the tank as a support heavy that can punish mistakes, not as a spotter or a long-range sniper. Avoid crossing open ground just to get early damage. Start somewhere with cover and a route to another position, then rotate when the fight gives you a safer angle. Saving your hit points gives you more chances to use the magazine later.
