Does a support Chronomancer need to tank outside raids?

Asked by PaperKite

I’m looking at learning support Chronomancer for fractals and casual content, and might try raids later. How does tanking and threat work outside raids, and would Minstrel or Giver gear cause problems?

There usually isn’t a dedicated tank role in open-world content. Enemies can still focus on players, but you generally don’t need to build around holding a boss’s attention. Fractals also don’t usually require a raid-style tank, though particular encounters can have aggro or positioning mechanics.

So a support Chronomancer can make sense there, but choose gear for the support job you want to do rather than assuming you need tank stats.

Minstrel and Giver gear include toughness, which can matter in raids where a boss picks its target based on toughness. That rule isn’t universal, so check the specific encounter and group plan before taking a high-toughness setup into one.

For fractals and casual play, follow a build for your intended role, such as boon support or healing support. A full defensive set may make you tougher, but it can also give up damage or other useful stats you don’t need.
