Oarina Of Time HD Remake

Could We Get An Ocarina Of Time HD Remake In 2018

When it comes to HD remakes, Nintendo has a bit an unpredictable pattern to how they approach them. There have been a few remakes made for Zelda games, but it is hard to tell whether Nintendo is really down with the idea of them. Some developers like Rockstar are against the idea of digging up old projects and remaking them while others do their best to remake their entire back catalogue. Nintendo have far too many 1st party games, they actually have too many Zelda games to remake them all. If you asked any Zelda fan, The Ocarina Of Time HD remake is likely at the top of their wishlist.

So far we have seen the OOT released on the 3DS, but this was not a remake, it was the exact same game with some minor graphical improvements and the addition of 3D support. Back when the Wii U was alive, Nintendo released The Windwaker and The Twilight Princess. This was really nice as it was the first time we had seen a Zelda game running in HD. So why did Nintendo decide to release these 2 games when The Ocarina of Time was where the interest was at.

The reason we have yet to see a remake is likely down to 2 reasons. The first is that the OOT was a large game. Lots of dungeons, lots of enemies and a lot of assets that are far more expensive to create with high res models/textures than they were in the original format. The second is the reason is nostalgia. What if the remake is not as good and it tarnishes the reputation? Nintendo tends not to screw up Zelda games, so being realistic, money is the reason we have yet to see it. The Wii U was a disaster, there was not a strong enough player base to make it worth the expense. However, things have since changed.

The Nintendo Switch got off to an incredibly strong start and has shown no signs of slowing down. With Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 and now Mario Oddysey, there is a pretty solid lineup of AAA first party games for the Switch. There is very little chance that the Switch is going to meet the same fate as the Wii U. In terms of a return on investment, Nintendo will likely make it on 2 fronts. Software sales of people actually buying the game and on system sales. People are going to be buying a Switch because they desperately want to play this game.

November 21st, 2018 is going to mark the 20th anniversary of The Ocarina of Time. This is a big birthday and what better way to celebrate it than to give it a shiny new makeover and release it on the Switch. This would be a huge release and it this date gives it significance. Nintendo made more than enough money from the Wii to pay for it and they will make an absolute fortune in sales. If Final Fantasy 7 is getting remade, then there is no reason why Nintendo should shy away from an Ocarina of Time HD remake.

The player base is there. The platform to release it is there. There is a milestone anniversary. Nintendo can more than afford it. Most important of all, an Ocarina of Time HD remake will sell a lot of Switch’s on top of selling a lot of copies of the game itself. There is very little reason not to remake this game now.

  1. I would personally love an OOT remake on the switch. My only concern; which you listed in the article; is that Nintendo would tarnish the classic game, be it either nostalgic buyers’ high expectations being crushed, or Nintendo giving OOT absolutely silly and ridiculous voice acting like in BoTW. Either way, I’m sure pros and noobs alike will flock to the nearest game stop or Best Buy to get the remake.

  2. It would be awesome to have OOT story on BOTW map. It would be a matter of changing NPCs and replacing the beasts by dungeons. Easier said than done, but it would be a great experience for sure.

  3. I’m all for a OOT remake for the Switch, but I also hope to see a Majora’s Mask remake! That’s right up there with my favorite games and I’ll be sad if they don’t remake it, also. I was so thrilled when they remade them both for the 3DS and I have them both.

  4. I would preorder OOT ASAP if it were announced. I wish there was a way Nintendo could see their customer base begging for this remake such as myself to see their potential increase in Switch/game sales.

  5. One the best games I have played I would love this I just bought myself a switch today for breath of the wild and I’m really enjoying it please nintendo remake OOT it’s a must!!

  6. I agree plus they can add the content they wanted to with the 64 DD not to mention a master quest mode. Nintendo really needs to understand that. They just need to come up with something to replace the c buttons lol I don’t like using a stick to control the ocarina. ohh and they can also re-release the hd remakes of wind waker and twilight princess (one of my personal favorites) and could do a triligy thing lol hey, a man can dream

  7. I would buy a switch simply to play an OoT remake. I don’t own one and have no plans to do so, but on announce day I’d pick one up.

  8. The coolest thing would be if they remastered the game and actually continued on with a new story from the part where you defeat Ganon and Hyrule finally get its peace.
Like at some point there are something new evil brewing on the horizon.
Like a DLC that they could release later on and continue on with a new adventure 🙂

  9. NINTENDO literally the only thing keeping me from reading it in is the hope that OOT will be made please say yes or no you don’t even have to improve graphics it is hands down the best game ever released excluding Knights of the Old Republic for a close 2nd

  10. I absolutely would buy a Switch just to play Ocarina of Time, and i would take the advantage of it, and play Mario Kart 8 and Odyssey.

  11. I’m sure the work done by CryZENx hasn’t gone unnoticed by Nintendo. Although it would be amazing to see a remake of this game for Switch, I believe the chances are unlikely. Who knows what Nintendo has up their sleeve? Hopefully Satoru Takizawa doesn’t go with a Breath of the Wild look if they do decide to remake it. I don’t think Nintendo’s too worried about sales but nearly all the comments I’ve seen have stated they would buy a Switch in a heartbeat just to play this game.

  12. I have been wanting them to do this as far back as the gamecube. I would spend ANY amount of money to play such a thing.

  13. I havent bought anything Nintendo in almost 10 years since I got the Wii. But… If this game was remade and released as a remastered version I would buy a SWITCH TOMORROW swear on my grandmother’s grave lol.. This would give me the satisfaction of reliving one of my greatest childhood memories with my children and have them fall in love with the game just like I did… If the video game gods hear me… PLEASE LET THIS HAPPEN

  14. That’s a sunRISE lol not a sunset. Just messing with you…
I would absolutely love it even if it was the original re-released for the Switch or whatever!

  15. When you jump down to the lake from Gerudo Valley, go to the cliff ledges and try to walk around (if the ledges are there like before)!

  16. I think that the ultimate re-make would be an 3d HD remake of the original Zelda game… and keep it simple; call it The Legend of Zelda… I picture being about 15-20 minutes into the game which will be a tutorial style intro, and then as you leave your “home” area or whatever and enter hyrule field, I want the original Zelda theme song to start playing and blast me with nostalgia…. and even though the map would be bigger, the basic layout would be the same….

  17. The best game of all time does deserve a HD remake. I think twilight princess and winemaker would be great on switch also. I think they should remake a link to the past eventually also. It’s easily one of the best zelda games ever. Or even just use the link between worlds graphics but it being link to the past. I think switch would increase there sales substantially.

  18. It would be amazing if this was remade using the Unreal Engine. I think gamers who have a nostalgic feeling towards OoT would be more for it but who knows? It might appeal to a wider audience if more dungeons were added, combat was more polished, etc. I personally think that Nintendo should re-release it as some sort of add-on for their next Zelda title or as some sort of bundle with MM. One can keep dreaming.

  19. Make it a DLC with modern graphics for the next Zelda or make it a bundle with MM for 3DS that can be played on the Switch in HD. C’mon Nintendo, listen to the fans. Especially the ones who have been playing your systems since the 90’s.
