What Does a Jasper Pawn Do?

I found an item on the moon called a Jasper Pawn. It is listed as a recreational item. It doesn’t appear to do anything, it just looks like a figure of a person or something. I’m curious as to whether there is some deeper story to this like some lost race or something?

Jasper Pawns are quite common, you will find a few of them. There are also bishops, knights and other pieces that match the names of the pieces on a chessboard. Unfortunately, there isn’t a big deep story behind these or anything. You can collect the pieces and use them on a figurine platform to play a game of chess.
