Found a glowing black and white ball??

I found this large glowing ball that has black and white stripes on it. It looks a bit like a marble or something. It seems special but I have no idea what I am meant to do with it. It doesn’t seem to do anything and no instructions have popped up in the game explaining what to do. Anyone know what you are supposed to do with these items?

I’m sure there are plans for this in the future but I don’t believe there is any use for these at the moment. They are a useful source of light and look cool but other than this, there isn’t much you can do with these items yet.
