Trophy Guide & Road Map [toggle]
Fallout: New Vegas has a pretty easy, yet time consuming trophy list. Compared to Fallout 3 there are far fewer missable trophies that will slow you down. You should be able to get all of the trophies in a single playthrough and a few game save reloads. Unlock Fallout 3, you cannot continue playing the game after you complete the final mission. This means all the XP and gear that is obtained at the end is no use to you afterwards. This sucks, but unfortunately we have to deal with it. New Vegas is quite glitchy in general, I would suggest you make regular game saves using multiple files to prevent any glitches wrecking the game for you.
A new game mode has been introduced in New Vegas called Hardcore Mode. There is a trophy that is obtained from completing the game in hardcore mode. It makes the game a little more difficult, but can be enjoyable. If you are having some trouble you could change the difficulty to very easy as there are no difficulty related trophies.
Purchasing the DLC isn't required to get the platinum, but it will make getting some of the trophies easier. You will likely have to grind some trophies at the end of the game. After playing the DLC you will likely have them all or be very close. If you really really hate grinding then get the DLC. It's a lot of fun, will net you some bonus trophies and help you get all of the grinding trophies.
There are multiple different endings to this game. Going down one ending path will prevent you from being able to get the other endings, which will also prevent you from being able to get all of the trophies for the alternative endings in a single run. This is where you will have to make use of multiple game saves. It is possible to save the game just before making a major decision. Once you complete the game with one ending, you can reload the save and go with any other decision options. It sucks, but it beats having to play the game multiple times to get the different endings.
The following endings will unlock the following trophies. If you go down one ending path (i.e. complete one of the quests) you will not be able to unlock any of the other trophies without having to reload your game save.
The House Always Wins.
All or Nothing
For the Republic
Caesar's Legion Ending
Render Unto Caesar
Veni, Vidi, Vici
Yes Man Ending
No Gods, No Masters
Should come naturally. Complete quests, kill enemies, discover locations. There are a lot of things that contribute to your XP count.
Complete quests, kill enemies, discover locations. There are a lot of things that contribute to your XP count. This should also come naturally
Getting to level 30 might not come naturally and the main problem with this game is that you cannot continue playing after the main story ends. You will get a large amount of XP after completing the final quest, but if it isn't enough then all the XP earned in the final quest wont get you to level 30. This trophy is more than possible to complete. There are plenty of side quests and other actions to get you up to level 30. If you want to purchase the DLC then you will easily get to level 30. If not you may have to grind a few enemies and other things to get the trophy. If you can pick the "Swift Learner perk" as early as possible it will increase the XP that you earn by 10%.
You should get this trophy without any issues. There are 8 different companions. See The Whole Gang's Here.
There are 8 companions in total that are required to get this trophy. You will only be able to have 1 robot and 1 person companion at any time, so to get all of them you will have to dismiss the current companion to replace them with a new one (imagine the chaos of having 8 companions following you around for the entire game!). You must recruit them all within a single game. Restarting the game will reset the counter.
You can craft items at a workbench, campfire or a reloading bench to craft items. It doesn't matter what you craft as long as you craft 20 things. You can do this quickest at a reloading bench since you will likely have a lot more ammo to work with.
Weapons can be modified to hold 3 weapon mods. You will likely pick up a few of these without noticing. You can buy weapon mods from various vendors throughout the game. Most shops will update their inventory every so often so if you found a cheap spot you could wait to pass time faster and it will bring back new stock. You will likely have to wait a while before getting this as you will need to save up enough caps to be able to afford them all.
Should come naturally. See Master of the Mojave for more information.
There are quite a lot of locations to discover and you may get to a point where you think there are no locations left to discover. The best thing you can do is when you need to travel to a location on the map, take the long route. Go out of your way to discover new locations along the way. This will help in the long run as it will allow you to fast travel to places later on in the game.
Snow globes are collectibles that are hidden around the game. There are 7 in total to find. You can't miss any of these, so you can get them whenever you want.
Sell pretty much everything you find. The main thing to remember is that if you have an item in your inventory that is worth 5000 caps, you may not be able to actually get this much money from a vendor as they will either not have enough caps to give you to full amount, or just wont give you that value of goods.
If you use energy weapons a lot you should get this easily. If not then it might be difficult. If you have not levelled up this skill, then you will do terrible damage with this weapon type. Keep this in mind as you play. By the end of the game you should have most of your skills levelled to the point where you can do reasonable damage. There is no damage counter while playing so just keep attacking everything with this weapon type until you get the trophy. Playing the game on very easy will increase the damage that you do with all weapons making this much easier to obtain.
If you use explosives a lot you should get this easily.
If you use guns a lot you should get this easily.
You pick locks using bobby pins. In most cases picking the lock on a door provides valuable loot or some form of shortcut. So if you come across a locked door and have a bobby pin, try to unlock it. Not only will it contribute toward this trophy, but it might also provide some great rewards.
This one didn't come naturally for me as I tried to conserve the Stimpaks to the point that I was leaving them behind in areas because I had too any. There are plenty of Stimpaks throughout the game so don't be afraid to use them like I was. You can see how much a stimpack heals if you use it within the pipboy menu. 10,000 isn't a huge amount so it isn't too much trouble to get this.
You will likely spend a lot of time using Melee weapons. Shooting guns will alert enemies, so melee weapons help you get over this. With ammo in short supply at times it also helps to use melee weapons. You shouldn't have to put any extra effort into unlocking this trophy. If you do then simply get a melee weapon and start killing things with it.
Repairing is a really useful mechanic to have in the game. If you are in an area with a large amount of weapons you can combine (repair) them all into a single weapon that is in good condition. This is handy because you will quickly get over encumbered when carrying around 12 of a single weapon type. Combine them together and you will be contributing toward this trophy and clearing out your inventory.
You could potentially miss this trophy. If you fail to hack a terminal it will lock you out and you will not be able to access it anymore. If you fail enough of them then you will "run out" of terminals to successfully hack. If you back out of the hacking process when you only have one chance left the counter will reset allowing you to try again. Keep doing this if you are having issues and you will be able to get "lucky" at some stage.
To pick a picket you will need to be in sneak mode. It is best that you sneak up behind people in order to pick their pockets and if they are sleeping you have a better chance of doing it without being caught. You can cheat this a little bit to make the trophy easier to unlock. If you pick a pocket and find the person has multiple items, just steal 1 item and exit out. Keep picking their pocket taking 1 thing at a time and it will contribute to the counter without having to pick the pockets of 50 people.
This one is very easy. You do not need to successfully complete the speech challenge, you just have to attempt it. There are more than enough speech challenges, and completing them usually has a very positive outcome so there is no reason not to at least attempt it, even if you have low odds of completing it.
There is a lot of food to be found, so pick up every piece of food you can find and eat it when you are injured. Combined with Stimpacks you will need to heal 20,000 points of health. The Stimpack healing doesn't give anything toward this trophy. This one shouldn't be any problem as you play through the game. If you can make it to the end of the game without needing to heal this much health then you you should pat yourself on the back for being awesome!
If you are awesome at the game you can injure yourself on purpose, by using explosives or just jumping off a high ledge. Heal the loss of health until you get the trophy. Shouldn't take much grinding to get this since you will be close enough by the time you get to the end of the game.
Unarmed means using your fists, so if you want to use brass knuckles or power fists it will still count toward this trophy. Playing on very easy will increase the damage that you do making this trophy much easier to obtain.
This game is boring and hard to understand. It's not difficult to get this trophy though. See Caravan Master for more information.
Simply play the slots 10 times. There are a lot of these machines scattered around the game. Once you get to New Vegas you shouldn't have any problem finding a slot machine.
There are a lot of Roulette tables to use and they can actually be a great way of earning caps if you are short. You don't have to win the spins, just play them to get this trophy.
Simply play 10 hands of the game and you will get the trophy.
This game sucks, but there is no way around having to play it. To get this trophy easiest, you can just play Ringo at Goodsprings as he is the easiest to beat. Ringo is the guy in the shed that gives you the caraven deck. When you get the deck with will also get instructions on how to play the game, so read over this to get you started and once you get the hang of it just beat Ringo 30 times to get the trophy.
This video should help you get the hang of the game a bit faster.
In order to get banned from a casino you will need to win too much money. You will only be banned from playing any casino games, you can still enter the casinos and move around freely after getting banned. In order to get banned you will need to win the following amount of caps in each of the casinos.
Gomorrah - 9,000 Chips
The Tops - 10,000 Chips
Ultra-Luxe - 15,000 Chips
Getting banned will make you loose reputation with the respected casinos group. While it may be great to get this money early on, it may make things a bit harder later on.
Hardcore mode is an option you have from the start of the game. You will get thirsty and hungry as you play and need to eat and drink even if your health is fine. This can put a strain on you.
This is the first quest, you will get this trophy at the start of the game.
This is the first possible quest you will get after starting. It's impossible to miss this.
You will get this quest after completing "They Went That-a-Way".
This is part of the "House" ending of the game. Since there are multiple different endings to the game, this one can be missed quite easily if you decide to go down the route for a different game ending. You should be regularly saving the game anyway, but make sure to save the game before accepting any major quests so you don't miss out on any trophies. This trophy is the frist trophy in the line to unlock "All or Nothing".
This quest can be made missable if you progress down the path for another game ending. Make sure you safe before going too far or else you will not be able to get the other trophies. This trophy is the first trophy in the line that will eventually lead to unlocking "Eureka".
This quest can be missed if you progress down the story path for another game ending. Make sure you save before going too far or else you will not be able to get the other trophies. This trophy is the first trophy in the quest line that will unlock "Veni Vidi Vici".
This quest can be missed if you progress down the story path for another game ending. Make sure you save before going too far or else you will not be able to get the other trophies. This trophy is the first trophy in the quest line that will unlock "No Gods, No Masters".
You will unlock this trophy after completing the Mr.House ending. You cannot get this trophy if you have gone down the quest path for a different ending.
You will unlock this trophy after completing the Caesar's Legion ending. You cannot get this trophy if you have gone down the quest path for a different ending.
You will unlock this trophy after completing the NCR ending. You cannot get this trophy if you have gone down the quest path for a different ending.
You will unlock this trophy after completing the Yes Man ending. You cannot get this trophy if you have gone down the quest path for a different ending.
This is a side quest that you will get in Novac, but can also get it when exploring the REPCONN test site. You will be tasked with clearing out all of the nightkin from the basement level of the facility. You have a few options on how the quest plays out. Follow the quest log to complete it and get the trophy.
This is a side quest that you will get from Tommy Torini in The Tops Casino.
You will get this quest from Tech Sgt. Reys in Camp Forlorn Hope (he is in the command center). In order to be able to get this you will need to have a bad reputation with the NCR.
You must be on the Caesar's Legion ending path in order to be able to get this trophy. You can't miss this trophy if you are on the correct ending path.
It's possible to miss this trophy 2 different ways. In order to get this trophy you must not be on the Caesar's Legion ending path. You need to have good reputation with the NCR or else you will not be able to get this trophy. Once it has been skipped it cannot be obtained, even if you increase your reputation with the NCR.
You can pickup this quest from the School of Impersonation in Freeside. There is a guy called the King who you will get this trophy from.
You can get this quest by speaking to Lt. Haggerty in the HELIOS One power station. If you choose to, this quest will give you access to the Archimedes II weapon, which is like an orbital laser that you can use to strike down on enemies once a day. This weapon can take out tough enemies with ease if you are able to sneak around and find a point where the enemy isn't running around.
You can pick this quest up from Mother Pearl At Nellis Air Force Base. If you value your companions, I would advise against bringing them on this quest. The boomers will be shooting a lot of missiles at you and the companions do not have the brains to hide away so they don't get blown up.
You will get this quest from Festus at the Sunset Sarsaparilla Headquarters. This quest will only be available after you have collected 50 Sunset Sarsparilla star bottle caps. You can find these throughout the game or rob them from characters in the game. Once you have 50 you will be able to go to the HQ and get this trophy.
