It’s official people, a Resident Evil 2 remake is officially in the works. The classic zombie survival horror that was first released in 1998 for the Playstation 1 is now getting a remake in glorious HD!
We know very little about the project yet other than it has been officially been approved by the management at Capcom. Based on the official announcement there is literally nothing to show on the game yet. They have likely just gotten approval for this game and still need to get a lot of stuff together before they can show off any basic stuff.
If we can hold out a bit longer we might get a trailer at E3 or TGS next year. Even without any material, the fact that they were able to make this announcement is sure to please a lot of fans. It should be interesting to see how this one turns out.
The best thing about a remake of this game is that they can’t really recycle anything from the original game. With Playstation 2 remakes they often take the original source textures (before compression) and just upscale them a bit. This results in some disappointing HD remakes. With a PS1 remake, they have no option other than to remake the entire game from the ground up. This game is sure to be a high quality game, let the hype train depart!
