I’m considering buying a PC for $400 from a friend that has an Intel Core i3-12100 and a GeForce RTX 2060 with 6GB VRAM. I’m curious if adding 32GB of RAM would significantly improve performance, or should I just stick with the 16GB that’s already in it?

Honestly, with that setup, I’d recommend saving your cash for a CPU or GPU upgrade. The market is rough for graphics cards, but if you’re mostly gaming, you might benefit more from a stronger GPU than from more RAM. But if you’re doing a lot of multitasking or heavy applications, then sure, 32GB could help. Just weigh your options.
It really depends on what games you’re playing and how demanding they are. If you plan to game at 1440p, 16GB should be fine for most titles today, but if you want to future-proof or play more resource-heavy games, then upgrading to 32GB could provide a boost. Just keep in mind that RAM isn’t the only factor—your CPU and GPU play a huge role too.
