I’m curious about the possibility of Resident Evil 9 featuring a co-op mode. I don’t need a deep story reason for it—just a playable character, even if it’s a clone of an existing character. Looking at how Resident Evil 7 and 8 played out, I really think they could have benefited from a co-op experience, maybe even as something unlocked after completing the game solo. What do you all think?

Co-op would be a bad idea for a game like Resident Evil. The single-player experience is what makes it special, and I hope they stick to that for the next installment.
Honestly, I don’t think co-op will make a comeback in the main storyline. The past RE titles, especially 5 and 6, had their share of success thanks to co-op but I think the shift back to horror-focused gameplay is what Capcom wants to prioritize. They seem to be taking a chance with the single-player, survival horror experience again.
I strongly believe that bringing co-op back for the main story would ruin the tense atmosphere. The solitude in 7 and 8 is what made those games terrifying. If they must introduce co-op, maybe just focus on a Mercenary mode or something similar instead of impacting the main storyline.
According to the Requiem site, it clearly states ‘Number of Players: 1.’ So it seems unlikely that RE9 will have co-op. However, I do believe that co-op could work well for the franchise—imagine an Outbreak-style game or a more refined version of RE5 where one character supports the other without a health bar system. That could be really interesting!
Exactly, the fear factor comes from being alone. I think keeping it single-player helps maintain that atmosphere.
