Hey everyone! I’ve got a modded save file with over 50 hours that got busted by a previous mod manager patch, so I avoided restarting my run out of fear of breaking it again. Then, about two weeks ago, I restarted a new save and I’m almost at 40 hours, about to hit Act 3. Now Patch 8 just got announced, and I’m worried it might break modded saves again. Has anyone got any insight on whether this patch will cause issues with modded saves? Should I try to push through Act 3 quickly before the patch drops, or wait and risk losing progress? Also, yes, I know I should’ve learned not to mod this much!

Just a heads-up, Patch 8 wasn’t a total surprise — it was announced months ago, though we only got a release date recently. If you’re worried, it’s probably better to finish as much as you can before the patch drops. But honestly, since patches tend to break modded stuff, waiting to see reports from others might be the safer move if you can afford it.
Basically, big patches always break something. Patch 7 was a nightmare for modded saves, but it seems Patch 8 might be a bit less harsh. Still, if you want to avoid tears, crank through Act 3 ASAP before the update or keep your game offline until mods get updated.
The safest bet is to turn off auto-updates for the game and play offline for now. That way you can hold off on installing Patch 8 until there’s confirmation that your mods are compatible. Jumping into Act 3 without updating sounds smart if you prefer to avoid risking your progress right now.
In general, every time a big patch drops, mods tend to break or at least cause issues. Since your previous run got busted after a patch changed how mods work, it’s pretty likely Patch 8 will mess with your save too. That said, this patch is said to be less disruptive than the last one, so some mods might still work fine while others will break.
That’s kind of what I expected, but it sucks to hear it might still be rough. Thanks for the heads-up!
Good call. I’ll keep it offline and see what the community says once the patch hits.
