I’m curious to hear everyone’s opinions on whether Nintendo will drop support for the original Switch as soon as the Switch 2 is released. Many people seem to think that Nintendo will shift their focus entirely to the new model right away, but I have my doubts. Given that the Switch 1 has been one of Nintendo’s best-selling consoles and continues to sell well, I think they might keep it supported for at least another year or more. For instance, look at the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S; they’ve still been supporting the PS4 and Xbox One years after their new consoles launched. What do you all think? Will Nintendo continue to support the original Switch, or will all the attention be on the Switch 2?

From what I’ve seen in the latest Direct, there are still lots of Switch 1 games coming out even in 2026. So it’ll probably remain supported while they shift their focus to the Switch 2, especially since they want both systems to coexist for a bit.
I think it’s going to be a later date before they pull the plug. They’ve got games planned for 2026 on the original Switch, and some major titles like Metroid Prime are on the way. It shows they’re not ready to abandon it just yet.
I believe they’ll keep supporting the original Switch for a good while. Nintendo has a history of doing that—look at how long they supported the DS after the 3DS came out. It seems they won’t just drop it.
Yeah, and they did the same with the 3DS too. I think it’s safe to say support won’t vanish overnight.
Historically, Nintendo has never completely stopped supporting a console when a new one launches, so I doubt they’ll stop right at the Switch 2’s launch. Plus, with the massive success of the Switch, it makes more sense for them to continue to support the original while bringing in the new model.
Exactly, and remember how the Wii kept getting titles long after the Wii U came out. I expect the same here.
Absolutely! They can’t afford to lose such a big user base right away.
