With the anticipated release of the Switch 2, which like its predecessor functions as a handheld, I’m curious if we might see Nintendo revert back to a dedicated handheld console any time soon. The Switch feels more like a living room device for most people I know, compared to how portable the Nintendo DS and 3DS were. I really miss those days and hope for a new dual-screen handheld from Nintendo in the future! What do you all think? Also, the size of the Switch 2 has me concerned about its portability, since it’s even bigger than the first version.

I really don’t think so. Nintendo seems focused on the hybrid model and I can’t see them going back to separate systems. They’d probably just make a lighter version of the Switch instead of releasing an entirely new handheld.
Honestly, I hope they don’t. Having to buy two devices was a hassle in the past, and the hybrid model works so much better. If they do launch a new handheld, it better be something special!
I mean, the Switch Lite is basically the handheld you’re asking for! It’s small and portable. I hear they might eventually do a Switch 2 Lite, which I’d totally pick up. I prefer to play on the go rather than sitting at a desk.
Yeah, I totally see your point. I think a Switch 2 Lite would be perfect, especially since my original Switch hardly lasts 3 hours on a charge!
