I’m currently using a GTX 1070 and an i7-6700K, which still work well for the indie games I enjoy. I’m not planning to upgrade just yet since I don’t have an immediate need, but I definitely want to be ready for GTA 6 when it comes out in 2-3 years. I’ve been checking out the hardware prices lately and I’m curious: do prices usually stabilize after new releases? I really want to avoid spending a fortune just to play GTA 6.

Just a thought, why isn’t NVIDIA regulated more strictly? They seem to dominate the market without really facing a solid competitor. Sure, AMD is around, but they feel more like a follower when it comes to innovation. It’s frustrating because NVIDIA has gotten to this point in part due to paying studios to stick with them.
In general, prices do tend to stabilize after a product’s release, but it really depends on the market conditions. With the rise of crypto mining and the COVID-19 pandemic leading to a surge in PC builds, we haven’t seen the usual stability like in the past. The demand is still pretty high, especially for GPUs, and until manufacturers can keep up with production, prices might remain inflated. CPUs are also tricky right now because Intel’s been having issues, which leads to less competition and higher prices for their chips. Everything else should settle down, though.
It’s hard to predict, but I’m optimistic that GPU prices will balance out eventually. From early 2024, many cards were available at MSRP, and both Nvidia and AMD were bundling popular games with their graphics cards to help sales. I wouldn’t stress too much about it until GTA 6 actually launches, as technology and pricing can change quickly.
