Hey everyone! I’ve been thinking a lot about whether Rockstar Games might be planning a VR version of Grand Theft Auto V. Here’s why I’m bringing this up:
1. They recently acquired a game studio called Video Games Deluxe, which has experience with VR games like LA Noir and its VR adaptations.
2. Rockstar had been collaborating with Meta on a VR version of GTA San Andreas, which seemed promising but now looks dead.
3. GTA V already has a strong first-person mode, making it easier to convert into VR since many of the necessary animations and interactions are already in place.
4. There was a VR mod created by a developer which Rockstar eventually shut down, showing that the game can technically run in VR.
5. The Enhanced Edition of GTA V seems unnecessary based on its limited upgrades, which leads me to wonder about their focus for the future. VR could be a path they’re exploring, especially after seeing how the LA Noir VR went.
However, I also see some roadblocks: the VR market is small, and many players prefer console or PC gaming, which might not translate well in a VR environment for GTA’s chaotic gameplay. Plus, there’s the challenge of making it fair for players across different platforms. What do you all think? Am I overthinking this, or could there be something to my theories?

I mean, VR would be incredible, especially if you could really explore Los Santos. But the game’s a bit chaotic for VR—a lot of folks might find it pretty jarring.
Yeah! And imagine managing driving physics in VR—might feel like a carnival ride!
Don’t count on it. They’re having trouble with ports as it is, let alone tackling a VR adaptation. It’s a lot of resources for a niche market!
True, I guess the focus is on where they can make the most money. VR isn’t their main priority for now.
I think it’s possible if they ever decide to try it with a future installment, like GTA VI. But for GTA V, they’re likely too busy focusing on online play and profit.
Honestly, I doubt we’ll see GTA V in VR. Rockstar hasn’t shown a strong interest in the VR market, especially with the massive success of the game on traditional platforms. They’re focusing on their next big titles instead.
Totally get that! If they could smooth out some animations and controls, it might work better, but it’s a big ask.
