I’ve been grinding Diablo 4 since launch, but the loot system is getting increasingly frustrating, especially with areas like The Pit of the Artificier, Kurast Undercity, and Khazra Citadel being tough to solo. I’ve heard the horn of trials leaderboard grind is still a thing, which adds to the hassle.
What really bugs me is the lack of a legit loot filter similar to Last Epoch’s. In Last Epoch, you can filter out unwanted items right on the ground—like only showing amulets or boots with a certain movement speed bonus—so you don’t spend ages checking every item one by one. This kind of system would seriously cut down on the tedium and help with gearing alts without an insane grind.
Is Blizzard finally adding something like this in Season 8? If not, any tips on how to deal with this or just vent about the grind? I already paid for the Vault of Horrors and feel stuck without this QoL feature.

Unfortunately, Blizzard hasn’t included a loot filter like that in Diablo 4 and probably won’t. The developers have said they want players to pick up every item because materials you need for crafting come from salvaging gear. They want you interacting with towns and NPCs regularly to sell and salvage items, so seeing everything on the ground is kind of by design.
Yeah, I gave up hoping Diablo 4 would catch up to other ARPGs on loot filtering. They’ve actively resisted adding it, insisting that Greater Affixes act as your ‘filter,’ but honestly that doesn’t cut it. Most popular ARPGs—even mobile ones that auto-equip gear—have solid filters. Blizzard’s approach seems to prioritize forcing you to manage gear manually, which is pretty old school and annoying.
Blizzard has basically said no to a loot filter because they want the grind and item interaction to be part of the gameplay loop. There’s some logic to it, but it definitely causes frustration. The idea that you have to manually check almost every drop really slows things down, especially when hunting alts with class-specific gear needs. My best advice: try to streamline your inventory management with stash sorting mods (if available) or set personal rules for what to pick up and what to ignore. It’s not a perfect solution, but until Blizzard changes their stance, it’s what we’ve got.
I get why people want to filter loot on the ground, but consider this: if you filtered out all low-value stuff, you’d miss materials, gold, or even rare items needed for crafting. The current system encourages you to pick up everything and then decide what to keep or salvage. That said, it would be really nice if there was an auto-tagging feature to mark junk gear quickly for salvage or sale, like a pet that manages inventory in Diablo 3. That would cut down on the grind while keeping materials flowing.
