I’m having trouble getting Pillars of Eternity 1 to load on my 5-year-old Asus ROG G14 laptop with a Ryzen 9 and GTX 2060. Other games work fine, but this one just gets stuck on the loading screen. I’ve reset the resolution, reinstalled the game, rebooted multiple times, and tried launching it both through Steam and directly from the game folder. Nothing seems to work. I really want to reach level 25! Any ideas on how to fix this?

Some folks have had issues with Pillars of Eternity taking forever to load when running on DirectX 11. Switching the game to DirectX 12 mode has sped things up for them. Maybe give that a shot and see if it helps your loading times.
If you’re running MSI Afterburner with Riva Tuner Statistics Server, try turning off Riva Tuner for Pillars of Eternity. It’s known to cause problems with some games, including loading hangups.
Try deleting the game config file to reset your settings. You can find it under Documents > My Games > Pillars of Eternity. Just remove the config file and when you launch the game next time, you’ll need to set your preferences again. This sometimes fixes weird loading issues.
Also, if you’re launching from Steam isn’t working, try getting the standalone version of the game directly from the official website. Sometimes that version behaves better on certain hardware setups.
Thanks, I’ll definitely try switching to DirectX 12 and see if it makes a difference!
