I’ve been using my Xbox Series S with my TV for a while without issues, but suddenly it won’t connect. I’ve tried using four different HDMI cables and checked all three HDMI ports on my older Samsung plasma TV from 2009, but nothing works. Interestingly, my Switch connects just fine, and the Xbox works perfectly on newer TVs. However, it also fails to connect to another older TV (a 2007 Westinghouse). Is there a chance a recent update could be causing this problem?

It sounds like your Xbox might be trying to connect in a higher resolution than your older TVs can handle. You can reset it to a lower resolution by doing the following: with the console off, press and hold the Power and Eject buttons until you hear two beeps. The second beep comes about 10 seconds later. This will boot your Xbox in low resolution mode, which might help with the connection issue!
I tried that, but it didn’t work for me. Anyone else have other suggestions?
Sometimes older TVs can have compatibility issues with newer consoles. You might want to check if your TV’s firmware can be updated, but since it’s from 2009, this may not be an option. Just to ensure, are you plugging directly into the TV, or through any external devices? That could also be causing the problem.
Just a heads up, for the Xbox Series S, you’ll need to hold the Xbox button and the Pair button instead of the Eject button since it doesn’t have one. Make sure you do that!
