I’ve been playing Monster Hunter Wilds on my Steam Deck using Proton Experimental since it launched. It looked a bit rough, but I had a great time playing with my girlfriend on her PS5. However, after the recent update, the game won’t boot at all! It crashes back to the home menu, and after I re-installed it, I keep getting an error message about not being able to authenticate on new devices. I’m not sure what’s going on since the game was running fine before this update. I know it’s not designed for the Deck, but I’m totally lost here. Anyone else facing this issue?

I get where you’re coming from—one of the main issues with the Steam Deck and certain games is the lack of support. Mine started crashing post-update too. Have you tried reaching out on forums or checking if there are any new patches from the developers?
It sounds like you’re hitting a DRM limit from trying different Proton versions. When you switch compatibility layers too much, it can trigger a reset in the DRM checks, which might lock you out for a bit. I had a similar problem with another game. What worked for me was reverting some of the .dll files to older versions after the update. I backed up mine before updating, so I didn’t lose progress. Hopefully, this gives you a starting point!
That’s a smart move! I’ll have to try rolling back my .dll files too. Thanks for the tip!
Yeah, it’s a bummer. I’m dealing with the same issue. It just crashes as soon as I try to launch it. Can’t find any fixes online, so if you discover something that works, please share it! We’re all in the same boat here.
Totally feel you! We need a fix ASAP. Fingers crossed!
Good idea, I’ll see if there’s any news from the devs. Thanks!
